1. ) Disconnecting and hauling the piece home; and 2. ) Getting it installed? 3. ) How much does this add to the cost? Where/how do you locate these people? I bought a range, a dishwasher, and a combo stacked washer/dryer through craigslist. and to answer the above questions for each: Range: 1) It was already disconnected, my wife and a friend used our appliance dolly to roll it into the horse trailer, and to unload it at the other end. 2) Installed by me. 3) The cord on the range fit the existing outlet, so cost == $0. Dishwasher: 1) Also already disconnected. It fit in my Subaru, one of the sellers helped me load it. One of the tenants help me unload it. 2) Installed by me. 3) It needed a new, extra-long cord, supply hose and drain hose, since it was being installed around the corner from the sink. Together they cost about $40, for a dishwasher that cost $50. Washer/Dryer 1) My wife and I tested it in place and then disconnected it and used our appliance dolly to move it out of the mobile home it was in. Not easy. We loaded it into the horse trailer, and unloaded it at the apartment. Getting it up the 3 steps into the apartment even with the dolly almost killed us. Another person or two would have really helped. 2) Installed by me. 3) Since the whole setup was new: electric, plumbing, drain, exhaust vent, I can't easily estimate how much it was to install it. Probably more than the $320 the machine cost. and to answer granada222's question. You ask them whether it works, and have to decide whether you believe their answer. That's a part of what you are getting for the low price, uncertainty. Without the horse trailer which has a ramp for access, and the heavy duty appliance dolly, it all would have been much more difficult.

Am so glad your store is a great one TooMuch. The stores vary as to their stock and pricing. I'm not sure why pricing would be off for new items as there is a standard for pricing. We use catalogs and usually cut the price more than 50%. Other items can vary depending upon whether we think they will sell immediately, one of a kind/unique or the condition. I thought it was interesting that cabinets are priced by the number of drawers/doors/addons. There is also the volunteer aspect and mistakes can be made, usually each store only has 2 paid employees. Everyone else working there is a volunteer. Our store is the largest in the state and have heard the two others cannot compare to our stock. Three stores here within an hour drive of each other. We have people who actually stop at this one to buy when traveling through from other states. If you don't like a store near you, check to see where the other's are. Stock is dependant upon location though and if the store is one receiving donations from Lowes/HD. My store gets tons of stock from them during the first of the year when they are changing over to new trends, displays and return items. We also get stock from contractor overruns, mistakes on special orders and business closings. An example is a double entry door with cut glass inserts....900 bucks...a special order and orginal price was 2800. If you see something and want it, don't wait. It will be gone. I just built a butcher block top island from a double cabinet and used the top from a table that came in. Paid 150 for the solid maple cabinet which was never used and had all types of storage add-ons inside, 40 for the top. May sound expensive, but matched my kitchen and couldn't even come close to buying either for the price. Even though I volunteer and see all coming in, if I don't jump on an item it will not be there the next day. Also, we put items out immediately which we know will be sold fast to keep inventory moving. Tis akin to garage sales, keep going, you'll start seeing all kinds of things. I was thinking the other day the HGTV should have a show on people who remodel using Restore. I love the customers, their ideas and excitement over finds. Some great stuff walks out those doors. They would need to keep from doing their long introductions and just get to the job at hand. Show people how to re-cycle on a budget. And, I need to keep my budget under control as well as bringing anything home that doesn't need to be here.

We've had much better luck with Craig's List than free cycle. For appliances, we sold them on Craig's list - we actually got lucky with the frig and oven and found people in the wanted sections and negociated a reasonable price/no hassle and that was it. Sold the dishwasher. Gave away a few cabinets, threw away a few (disassembled/left by the curb/cut up to smaller pieces). We tried Habitat - they first didn't come, then came and didn't take much... never will use them again. Frecycle folks are usually a hassle - want you to deliver, don't have a truck, can't lift themselves, and lots of drama but that's just our experience. We haven't had to rent a dumpster - we just slowly throw stuff away - get good trash bags and load up 2-3 trash cans each week. Sometimes we'll move one over toward the neighbor so they can't tell whose it is... she wouldn't mind if we put it at her end nor would several others as she has the same house we do and loves what we are doing. For windowes (example), we threw out 3-5 sections each week for how ever many weeks and it worked out fine. Saved dumspter fees and a trip to the dump - neighbor was going to try to get rid of them too but why bother him.

They have new and used appliances that are available separately. They also have store display kitchens and sometimes other rooms.
