Seam(s) in granite around the kitchen sink

There needs to be some kind of seam(s) around the kitchen sink (or I need to go with the domsjo counterdepth sink-there appear to be a few other choices in counter-depth sinks). I have been told to never place a seam on top of a cabinet join, true? I know the preference is to cut a hole rather than have any seams...but when there are seams is there any agreement on where the seam(s) should be placed around the sink- or is it all a visual, not a functional, issue? I like the look of a tile-in sink, can they be used with granite, if so, what would be the material at the granite-sink border?
