60 x 30 acrylic tubs?
Comments (18)" if you can deal with the AS logo on the face plate." Meh, I could make another faceplate. I do strange stuff like that. Today I measured the "Style Selections" tub at Lowes. It is 12 1/2" soaking depth, not 15" as stated online. (Which makes sense with a 16" overall heiaght). It is obviously a store brand made by Sterling/Kohler for Lowes to meet a lower price point. The Sterling brand acrylic tubs are molded in a single polymer. The Style Selections are fiberglass and coated with acrylic. Sometimes a coat over fiberglass is a POS, but I peeked underneath and found the Selections to be rock-freaking-solid. The front skirt and tub are very thick, rigid, and reinforced. The fiberglass may not look pretty under there but it really does the job. The tub has four points of contact with the floor, four short legs of plastic pipe molded into the fiberglass. I would rather bed the thing in mortar if the mfg installation instructions permit. The acrylic coating is quite thick over the fiberglass, it looks to be 1/8 inch instead of a millimeter. IMO, something that can gouge 1/8 inch into plastic would probably damage porcelain over cast iron. All in all, I think it is pretty good quality for a house brand. And it costs just $205 in 2013. The 12.5 inch soak depth is nowhere near a deep as the Mirabelle at 16" and we may still go with that. However, it is as deep as the top ledge of our current tub. We'll see if DW goes for it....See MoreKohler Archer tub - did they redesign it?
Comments (1)It appears that they still offer the 60 x 32 with the ledges that they call armrests but someone here who has one calls "finger rests", as well as this new one that leaves those out to stay 30" wide. Personally, I'm really happy to see the new version, although I know nothing about the material, since that extra two inches would have been a big problem for me in a small bathroom. Now I don't have to worry about moving the toilet over to stay within code. I'd love to know more about the material, too. I think the bevel means the top outer edge of the tub, not the ledge inside, so the new one would be beveled, too....See MoreKohler Archer tub owners - Do you find it too narrow?
Comments (3)We actually just installed this in the hall bath for the 3rd/4th bedrooms - same 3-wall alcove, with integrated apron. We liked it for the plain apron and clean, straight lines. I never really noticed before now, but I do see how its pinching in about a third-way down makes it a bit narrower at the base. I've never showered in it since it is our guest bath, however, I don't think it would feel noticeably narrower than other tubs. The spec says it's 19.75" at the base; other tubs of this size may say around 22" at the base but are slightly oval, so they may taper to 20" or less towards where you'd be standing. The Bancroft does appear to be 22" where you'd stand, so it is indeed wider. But try standing with your feet 20" apart; it's not really a position you'd be standing naturally in the shower for any length of time. We did put a curved shower rod in though, so that our guests would get more room around the arms and elbows. If you like the look of the Archer, as we did, I don't think the difference will be bothersome....See Moreintro and ?: Kohler Archer tub with Bask heating
Comments (1)Didn't know this was available with an internal heater. I did try out an standard Archer tub in that size and found it too narrow - the full-lengh armrest and curved floor steal alot of interior space. Like the high-mounted overflow drain though that allows a deep soak without an overly high sidewall to climb over....See Morerebeccamomof123
