Borax toxicity in potted crepe myrtles

John Walusk

Hi All, I had 3 beautiful large crepe myrtles that were potted. Recently they became infested with black ants and I was given poor advise. I was told to put borax onto the top of the soil to kill the ants. Now 2 of the 3 crepe myrtles are yellowing and losing their leaves. I am flushing the soil now for 2 days straight with clean water trying to rid the toxicity of the borax in the soil. Am I able to save the 2 plants or have I killed them? Also...the ants weren't killed either.
