I considered making a vanity out of wall cabinets. A 2x4 base would be easy. You can find wall cabs in so many sizes it would be easy to get exactly what you want. I am going to use a piece of antique furniture. I have 6 possibilities right here at the antique store. I also have two pieces of my own but I don't want to cut them in any way. Better to cut someone elese's. I'm trying to get away from the miniscule drawers that every vanity has. I will use either a small chest of drawers or a desk looking thing. I considered an antique wash stand but they're really too tall unless I can cut a couple inches off the legs.

Hello, I would like to offer a different opinion on vessel sinks. We have two teak wood vessel sinks in our master bath for close to 4 years and absolutely love them. ...we also have a hand blown glass vessel in a powder room and ditto on how we like that one. We are now considering a stone sink for our kitchen - and the care & maintenance for this sink would be very similar to onyx. What I have found is that as long as you have applied a decent stone sealer (there are sealers for granite, onyx, marble, travertine, etc.), cleanup should be simply "soap and water". There are also "soap & scum cleaners" for stone in case you need to do some extra cleaning on occassion. Stone has been used forever in applications like tiles, countertops and sinks. You would use the same sealing/cleaning products on a stone sink as those used in tile and countertop applications. I have one friend who bought some onyx sinks from a company called Sinks Gallery (SinksGallery.com) and she has been very happy with them. These are in a guest bath so they don't get used as often as a master bath, but they do get used by kids and she says they are very easy to keep clean. If you like the look of onyx and want to put them in your master bath, I say go for it!

We used a low vessel sink in a powder room because the counter itself is high. (We used Kohler Conical Bell which sits only 3 inches off the counter.) The faucet is a Moen 6111. It's 12 1/2" from counter to top of faucet. The height seems to work well with the height of the sink. The one thing I'd do over is move it just a bit closer to the sink -- the way it sits, the water stream arcs right into the center (drain), which sounds great. But when you wash hands, they're above the drain, so it would be nice to have the water arc hit the center a couple inches higher. If you do a wall mount, I think you can select the height and have the water spout go straight down into the middle of the sink. (I really wanted a wall mount, but only with one handle and could only find styles for $$$.)

When I placed my wall mounted faucet I measured about 5-6" from the spout end with the aerator, to the counter top. It might have been 4", I don't remember exactly. What I did was measure other sink counter to spout end dimensions to come up with my number. Then, look on the specs, for your faucet options, for what height meets your needs. Is your sink 5" from the counter? If so, add another 5" to that, for instance, and you get 10" spout end height. Of course there may be an arch in the faucet, so overall height might be taller. You'll need to be mindful of total height of faucet and handle when mounting a medicine cab. I have a top handle on one of my sink faucets. So, for clearance I measured the height with the handle full on to find wall height to mount the med cab.
