rooting hoya kerrii
Comments (16)From my experience, Hoya leaves root readily. However, it's my understanding that only those that get some (even a bit, probably...) of the main stem will actually (eventually...) produce new growth. I always insert a perfectly healthy, accidentally knocked-off leaf back on the soil with the main plant. They root at least 95% of the time. I have yet to have any produce new growth (and, BTW, I've been doing this 25+ years...) Lydia, I think it's likely that you got some "DNA" from the main stem, which is why you got some new growth. Congrats (I say with great envy!!) I'm now inspired to do an experiment with one of my larger Hoyas! Denise in Omaha...See MoreCan a single hoya leaf be rooted?
Comments (1)You can root a leaf, but a leaf alone will not produce a plant. You need some stem. I don't know of any source that sells seed. In the 35 years I've grown Hoyas, I've only gotten seed horns twice. Another issue is that the seed is viable for a very short time. Cuttings is the easiest way to propagate Hoyas. Comments (10)I have written about how to propagate fiddle leaf fig here- https://www.apieceofrainbow.com/fiddle-leaf-fig/ I rooted 4 stem cuttings and 1 leaf, shown above. the leaf did not survive, but i think it is because of competition- i planted it in the same pot as 2 other stem cuttings, which grew rapidly. the african violet leaves i rooted has grown into plants. what happens is that small bud will grow from the roots and turn into branches. i think FLF works the same =) https://www.apieceofrainbow.com/grow-african-violet/...See MoreFrom a single leaf (kerrii)
Comments (11)I always thought a cutting/leaf needed at least one node, two even better. i received a leaf of Deykea from a Poland vendor as a freebie. The leaf is doing great! The roots look good but I was told without a node it would never put out new growth. It's been a year and nothing has happened. It looks the same way as I received it....See Morelaticauda
