I dug around looking for info on the montebello. There are specs about efficiency in the product information (AFU number or something like that) if thats the type of efficiency you mean. If you mean as a window to the great outdoors as you plan to use, its wind tested but again to find the document that gives the results you have to do a bit of digging. My understanding is tho it passes a minimum rating for air infiltration as a window. I wouldn't expect energy star type of performance however. Heres a link for a PDF that seemingly is intended for Lennox dealers, I found it gave the most specific information regarding air tightness testing. Yes, and we have an unpleasant odor when the wind blows, only. Other times it works fine. Now, the inside of our home is a different story. The ventless leaves a smell everytime we use it. Also runs very hot. The builder put it in. Our ceilings are 9', and the room area is large. I would never have a ventless again!

Blowers are useless outside, since hot air just goes straight up. The only heat you are going to feel outside is radiant, and an unvented model is not the best choice for that. Both the Montigo and American Hearth/ White Mountain Hearth units are well made and will deliver drama. If heat is on your priority list, you might do a little more research and try to find a way to get some radiant heat. You might want to look into one of these: Town & Country WS54 Outdoor
