Comments (9)thanks krista and Audrey sherry Archdukes Charles is planted next to Napoleon (not the best idea but who knows what was happening at that time haha). No my AC hasn't shown BS (cross fingers). Right now the only ones with BS are Tamora in a large pot and Mmme Isaac Pereiere in the ground. The mornings this spring have been amazingly cool, with dew on leaves, perhaps that's the reason. I haven't had BS much in the past, too blazingly hot and sunny. Comments (15)I had Abe when I lived in Edmonton (zone 3). It survived over 3 winters, but gradually got smaller and smaller until it died. But I remember that I absolutely loved it. It was my first non-hardy rose, and totally got me hooked on the tender roses. Now that all my roses are potted, I'm going to overwinter my roses in the garage. Seeing your pics made me determined to get Abe again. Thanks!! Talk about gorgeous pics of Abe. Gahhhh... drool.... Carol...See MoreLucky in FL with Roses in Pots? and My Abraham Darby!
Comments (9)Hi juneroses, It will depend on how you want to grow them on which source you should order from. If you want to just keep them in pots you could try own rootstock or grafted to non-fortuniana root stock varieties. If you plan to keep them in the ground long term and have nematodes then you may want to get them grafted onto fortuniana root stock. You can research more on this on the florida and rose forums and decide how you want to proceed. There are lots of different sources for DA roses besides just the DA website. There are a few places that do graft the DA roses onto fortuniana root stock. Two of them are K&M Roses and Cool Roses. For own root stock DA roses at lower prices that are usually smaller plants than the bare root roses and come in small pots. There is Chamblees Roses Nursery. Roses Unlimited also has them. If you do a google search you can find more. David Austin website also has own root and grafted onto non fort. root stock that are sold as bare root larger plants. If you sign up for a mail catalog from them they may send you a coupon code to use on your order. Finally some DA roses do better in the heat than others. I did some research on the rose forums to see which would probably work for me. I don't mind experimenting a little either lol. Usually the ones that stay smaller are better for pots but obviously a lot of people are growing the larger ones in pots and they are doing okay. If you keep them trimmed and can get it out to replenish the potting soil every few years they can do well. Hope this helps. I hope others can add some more sources and ideas for you. ~SJN...See MoreCan I get the scoop on Abraham Darby and Heritage?
Comments (13)I would call David Austin roses in Tyler Texas and ask them if these two roses are recommended in your climate. They have a list for every state it seems and the are super helpful. In my opinion both of these are excellent. But my climate is very different from yours. These are both heat loving roses (or they wouldn't grow well for me) so they may not like colder areas, but some roses do well in both hotter and cooler climates so you never know. I know AD gets black spot for many people, and it does for me too, but this is one of DA's most popular roses and it didn't to be this famous for no reason :)...See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
