Meyer Lemon Trees - yellow leaves, falling off
Comments (7)There is nothing wrong with your tree. Falling leaves from citrus is quite common at this time of year, and for the next month depending where you live. The leaves in question are just old leaves that have lived out their life span A citrus leaf has a life span of 20 - 24 months. If you look at the leaves you can even see where the tree has pulled back out most of the remaining nitrogen from the leaves so that the nitrogen can be reused before the old leaves are discarded. When an older citrus leaf can no longer accomplish it full required work task for the tree it is quickly discarded. There is no welfare program for an old leaf. Adding gravel, rocks, or other such material, does NOT help with the container's drainage. It actually hurts the drainage, because the layer of rock only raises the perched water table even higher into the container's growing area. There a all types of mediums that a container citrus will grow well in. Just be sure that it has good drainageand good aeration. The number one potting mix world wide for container trees is 5 parts conifer bark, 1 part coarse sand and 1 part peat moss. It is used by most every commercial nursery in the world. This forum has two favorite mixes that they seem to use. Personally, I have never use them, but for small trees in small containers they seem to work. Good luck to this tree. - Silica...See MoreHELP!!! My lemon tree leaves are turning yellow!!!
Comments (8)Josh: Do you know any other method to check the soil dampness? (I can't use the "finger test" method because the soil is so hard and full with roots so it's impossible to stick my finger down there). Johnmerr: Thank you for the suggestion! I will give it a try. There is another thing. There is a instruction tag came with the tree that says I should only repot it after 2 years. However the soil doesn't seem to have good drainage to me (when i water it, the water doesn't go right down but stay on the surface of the soil for a few minutes, I then have to wait until it's absorbed by the soil then repeat again until I see some water running down the drainage hole at the bottom). Is it normal so? Or should I repot it and replace it with better soil?...See MoreMeyer Lemon Yellowing leaves and spots

Comments (0)I'm a citrus newbie trying to grow a couple of different citrus trees/plants from seed and it's been going rather well so far. I live up north in Sweden so they're just growing indoors and with artificial light during the darker part of the year. My lemon plant have been the most successful one so far, it's been growing steadily the past year and have looked really healthy. A month ago I pruned it and it immediately started to sprout which was my intention. But today I noticed that two of the new leaves had started to crumble and had yellow spots with brown in them. When taking a closer look I find yellow spots on many of the older leaves as well, but they don't look exactly the same. I've tried to compare the spots against images of citrus pests and diseases, but I can't determine myself the cause. Anyone here with more citrus experience who can help me determine what's happening to my beloved plant? The new leaf, it's more crumbled than on this picture: A few of the older leaves with yellow spots:...See Moremaddypj
