Giant sunflowers

Hi all!

i just planted some giant sunflowers seeds and it has only been less than a week the seedlings are 10cm tall!

they seems to be flopping, and somehow i have 2 seedlings growing next to each other.

do i need to stake them? Are they "healthy"?

i am from singapore and the weather have been hot and lotsa sun. Yet windy!

I don't know what your climate ill do to sunflowers. Interesting now that I think about it. I'm quite sure you have too many for a pot that size. Try thinning them back o one, the strongest stem. They look sort of skinny, perhaps too much water.

Hi everyone...ErinBet, I started growing Mammoths also! They are hitting 6'-8', but I am having trouble with the only one that has gotten a flower. The darn thing is drooping no matter what I do. I keep giving it more water, but it seems to get worse. I've read that they need multiple lighter waterings over the day rather than the once a day soaking I give them. My sunflower looks so sad. Can anyone help? Oh, also, the packet said to plant them 8" apart which I did. I also just planted them directly into our soil on the front lawn...nothing special. I've heard of people using trenches and mounds, but I learned after I already planted. I can take a pic tonight. Thanks, Margaret

Sunflowers grow best in location by chock-full sun. They are amazingly hard and will grow in any sort of soil as long it is not waterlogged. They do fine in loam that are vaguely bitter to somewhat alkaline pH 6.0 to 7.5 Once sunflowers get ongoing, they can accept lack as befits plants whose ancestors grew happily in dried up plain regions. They are so easy to grow that they often plant themselves, springing up unbidden lower a bird feeder.

I have a 6 ft tall tomato plant leaning against an 8 ft tall sunflower, but it was an accident. I just noticed how tall the tomato plant was and that it was leaning that way and secured it there, (but it is just a cherry tomato and so should not get very heavy). It is an interesting idea- and a lot more attractive (and cheaper) than stakes. Good thought. Brandy

I don't see a relation to sunflowers. The Ramgol link gives us something where Google Translate says کاج لاوسون پیچ is Lawson Pine Pitch. I don't know if that is correct but nevertheless Google Translate can perform some interesting things.

Now, for example Google آفتابگردان and get an English page on ''common sunflower'' among other pages which relates to the thread title.
