Are these plants located at the edge of water? Because it sure looks like the egg mass of a caddisfly!

Even if this plant isn't hanging over a freshwater source, it could be caddisfly. Insects make accidental egg deposits all the time.

I googled caddisfly eggs and it certainly does look like it. There are no bodies of water nearby, just a bird bath on the other side of the bush. This is in a landscaped shrub area in front of my house. Could it be tree frogs? I do have lots of toads and frogs around. Hopefully I'm home when they hatch so I can observe and take pics.

Tree frogs in temperate zones lay their eggs in water, as do toads. There's a body of water somewhere in the neighborhood. It could even be drainage ditches that don't drain rapidly. I have them in my yard, too and the only water that I know of is a large pond about half a mile away.

I found a mean snapping turtle in my yard one year, lol.

There is a small lake about 1/4 mile away. Something hatched today. Small flying insects everywhere outside. I checked the egg sac and it's still there.
