Stupid question about mangoes

Steph

They say there is no such thing as a stupid question but to judge from the reaction of people I've asked this, that adage is incorrect...

I am tempted to try to grow mangoes since others in LA have had success with them, but I have read about how there is urushiol (the toxic compound in poison oak/ivy) in the leaves/sap of mangoes and cashews. But most people I know who grow mangoes say they've never had any trouble with pruning them... but then if I ask, they don't recall ever having gotten poison oak rash either. I get it, and so does my landlady.

Does anyone who's sensitive to poison oak/ivy grow mangoes? Do you have any issues?

Has anybody ever gotten a rash from their mango tree?

If it's no worse than, say, fig latex, perhaps I will grow one in a pot (I hope they will fruit in pots?) and if somebody who's really dreadfully allergic to poison oak visits I'll just make sure it's moved well out of the way.
