do I need to add accent tile to shower's white subway?
Comments (8)I'm also doing a similar color scheme in my daughter's bathroom. For accent, I am using a gorgeous Calacatta marble mosaic only in the niches (shower shampoo niches, and one recessed into the wall next to the vanity.) It's the same tile I used for the niches in my master bathroom, which has all white glass on the walls. Since it's on a vertical surface (just the back walls of the niches) cleaning isn't so much a concern. We've had it in the master bathroom for about 9 months and no problems at all. We are using marble pieces for the shelves, so the horizontal places where soap/shampoo might build up are easy to clean. You could also just use the subway tiles for the perimeters. I think this is a nice way to keep the wall tile simpler but also add a bit of interest and bling without getting too busy. Here's the niche by my master bath soaking tub, during the renovation:...See MoreHeight of Trim Accent tile line in Shower?
Comments (2)We have 8 x 12 accent tiles, with more accent tiles inset into the larger tile in our shower. They run lengthwise and are set right below the shower head, and go every other one, all the way around the stall. Our shower head is hung high. Although the tiles are just above eye height, I sometimes think they would look better if they were above the shower head....See Morewarranty on the granite and Q about backsplash
Comments (7)I also tiled to the counter and had many granite places advise against it, but it was because my walls are not exactly 90 degrees and those particular fabricators could not cut the granite to fit exactly, thus leaving gaps. They tried to convince me that I "needed" the granite backsplash and it was "impossible for anyone to cut it exactly". Well I stuck to my guns and found someone who could. You will have a caulk line weather it's at the corner where tile meets granite, or atop the backsplash where tile meets granite so I say tell them you want what you want. As for warranty- I would say a warranty on the labor is only good if the company actually honors it. If the company has been in business a year and offers a 15 year warranty- that doesn't really mean much because there is no track record there. See if you can talk to other customers who may have needed to have them make good on that warranty. Also, find out exactly what it covers. My fabricator has a lifetime warranty on the labor- and included in that are free repairs should I ever somehow chip the granite by accident. I vetted them out, and according to their other customers, they very much stand by this warranty. Do lots and lots of research, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't have what you want! Good luck!...See MoreShow me your shower niches and/or accent tiles--
Comments (50)Thank you for posting that example! I was just checking in on this thread hoping to see an example of where I might locate it on a tub/shower wall in terms of height since I will want to access it while lying down as well as while standing. Not a big deal (obviously!!!) but I want it to look right and to function right. I'm sure he is going to lose it on me. I have found all of this quite stressful at a time when work is also quite stressful. Oh well. This, along with a couple of the bathroom rated command hooks for loofahs and we should be all good for storage sice none of my bottles are more than 13 inches tall. I was not thinking quite clearly yesterday when I went to the Tile Shop. I wonder if he will also charge me $200 for tiling the little one? I hope not. He really seems lacking in creativity and a desire to do anything beyond what he "has seen" or certainly to do what I want; first on today's agenda will be me telling him that we are going to find a way to recess a medicine cabinet in a structural wall (after all it does support only the roof, not another whole story). He told me yesterday it would be impossible to do so. I really think he usually just doesn't want to do the work or put in the effort and hopes I will just take him at his word if he seems unpleasant enough to deal with. What s smart strategy! It really is not reflected in his other AL reviews but maybe they just took it as him being a seasoned authority. I probably should remind him I am an Angie's list member....See MoreRelated Professionals
