Please HELP with Hardie siding color selection

We are replacing our aluminum siding with Hardieboard lap siding.

We are going with 7" lap (so it would be much wider/double size of existing lap). Color choices are below-- we are thinking Cobblestone or Monterey Taupe-- what are your thoughts?

Cobblestone will almost exactly match our existing color. We have seen some houses with this and they all look nice and it seems pretty neutral.

Monterey Taupe is darker and provides little contrast with the brick (is it better to have less contrast?). We have seen houses with this color and they all seem to look different (depending on times of day and different light), which makes me nervous. It tends to take on a green color (not sure if this would be okay or not good thing with our brick--browny orange-- and bay-- copper with blueish patina). We are thinking of going with the beaded product to add some texture- do you think that is a good idea? (Back and sides of home are siding only)

Lastly, we will be going with white fascia, gutters and trim. Windows on back and sides of home will have 3-4" white trim. Would you go with siding color or white corners (all but 1 of the samples above have white corners)? If white, would you do only the 4" exterior corners white and slim interior corners siding color, or both white? I am uncertain about white interior corners wince each side of bay window would differ (left side goes up 2 stories and the other only 1 story)... and would you use white around chimney and roofline (as they did below)?

TIA for any advice you can offer!!

I prefer the darker. We have Hardiboard, too. I think ours is Monterey Taupe. It looks like your first picture there. I really don't think that third one is the taupe-way too green. we have the smooth finish, so it really looks like old clapboard. The textured ones which they say are 'wood texture' really don't look like old wood siding which was usually smooth.

I also prefer the darker. But I also think the Mountain Sage would be beautiful with the brick and the black shutters.

Hi congratulations on your new home. It looks really nice. First a disclaimer, I'm not a designer, but I'm happy to give you my opinion. If you have the option to pick up a sample of your stone and take it and compare it to the siding colors, I think that is best and when they are laying side by side, you'll be able to see what colors you are drawn to. I would do my best to take the colors from the stone. Just looking at the pictures, it looks like some of the lighter stone has some of the same shade/tones as the almond garage door. If that is the case, then I would look for two shades of brown in the stone that harmonize with the stone for your siding and shake. I would try to keep the garage doors and trim the same if possible. To my untrained eye, I would look at the Navajo beige trim as well as the sail cloth with the almond door. If you decide to do the taupe door, I might look at cobblestone. As for the siding and shingle, I think they look too much alike, and I would want more of a contrast. Maybe look at Khaki brown for the siding or maybe even Autumn brown. Hope that gives you something to think about. Good Luck!

If the trim and shingles are already up I'd get some samples and put them up against the house in varying lighting conditions. Help with selecting siding color for new lake house

In MN houses with vinyl siding near our lakes seem to fade so quickly. Quite the chalky outer layer in time. Not certain why, but the same sidings in town did not. Our vinyl siding cracked/crumbled after only 11 years on the house. We went with a blue LP Smartside with white trim for our lake home remodel. It should outlast our lives. It will survive hailstorms (vinyl didn't). Neighbors say it really blends in with the blue sky and the blue waters of the lake.

My fencing is about 3' tall. You may not need something quite that tall in the first year or two. For this summer, if it flops in the rain, I'd do just a simple string-and-stake system. I pruned mine way back this past spring before I put the fencing in, which allowed me to nestle the fencing closer to the interior of the plant. Pruning also helps if the plant gets lopsided or if stems are broken by winter snow--mine gets more sun from one side so leaned that way over the years, and pruning evened it back out. Some years I haven't gotten around to pruning it all all, though, and it still looked great. It will leaf out on the old wood and produce gigantic flowers if you don't prune; more/smaller (but still impressive) flowers if you do prune. Some people find that not pruning results in sturdier/woodier stems that don't flop as much. The good news is that Annabelle is extremely forgiving, so you can experiment and see what works best for you!

cyn427, how do you like the Hardiboard? Have you had to do any maintenance? What material did you go with for trim work? Our contractor likes to use Azek...

That 3rd image is definitely Monterey Taupe (our contractor did it). I know it looks very different from other shots! I think the setting affects the feel of this color a lot (this house is down the street in our neighborhood, which is a wooded country setting). The picture above is through the car window and pretty bad, so I just took another one and even in the evening it reads pretty green (not that it is bad, just not as taupy as it seems like it would be).

We have been very pleased with the Hardiboard. No maintenance at all so far and we have had it for about 10 years (? I think). One irritating thing was that a squirrel gnawed on the edge of a couple boards, but not a big deal as it is not really noticeable. We did need to redo our trim at that point. Wish we had gone ahead anyway because I doubt DH will ever bother with it now. Sigh.

Oh, and I am beginning to think we may not have the taupe-ours isn't actually as dark as your first picture now that I look at it. I can't remember where I stuck my home improvements binder or I would check. I will look for it. GW isn't letting me share my photos from my iPad these days or I would post one for you. Very irritating. I will see if there are any photos on the Macbook.
