Feeding new Laurels

We have planted 8 new Skip Laurels and put landscaing fabric around them to hold moisture in, as well as keep weeds back since they are plants near the edge of some woods. And there are quite a bit of weeds around the edge of the property. is there any good way to feed them in the future with the lanscaping fabric down? i was thinking of liquid organic fertilizer but i am not sure. would that lose any value by having to pass through the fabric. as well as a layer of mulch? or just need a lot more?
