what type of dishes do you like to use in microwave
Comments (20)BE CAREFUL!! You should never heat water in Pyrex in the microwave without a disturber in the water. A bamboo skewer is a good choice. If you don't have something with an irregular surface that the bubbles can form on, the water can look like it's not boiling at all, and can get superheated. The superheated water can explode out of the cup. Pyrex is too smooth. Fine for pie or even soup, but put something tall enough to go from the bottom to the top of the cup in it, if you're going to heat water, or put a spoon in it before doing anything else with it, to let the bubbles out. Pyrex used to be borosilicate glass. You can still get Pyrex branded borosilicate in other countries, with the name licensed by the makers. In the U.S. (PA), it's now made by a separate company from Corning, and is tempered soda-lime glass, which is supposed to be harder to break but less heat resistant. It's not inferior in quality, just different in properties, and Corning was also selling tempered soda-lime glass, besides the borosilicate, for decades before they spun off Pyrex, so age doesn't tell the whole story....See MoreShiplap board walls - do I need a backsplash?
Comments (6)It would eliminate any concerns (which I think are probably pretty unfounded if the concern is about incidental splashing) about the wood swelling and causing problems with the granite. Whether the wood stays behind the granite or is trimmed to overlap the top of the granite - the wood/granite joint will need to be caulked....See MoreWhat plants do you like to use to maintain interest ++
Comments (30)Karen, what lily is that? The tall pink? They are gorgeous! alana, I have a few piedmont azleas (blooms look and smell like honeysuckle) I have a flame azalea that I dug up from my mothers. It blooms before it gets leaves and is unreal. I winter sowed lots of goodies this year (my first time) so I am excited about filling in holes in my yard. We have no access to nurseries that carry cool plants here. We are all just walmart and home depot. It is crazy that the same stores, 40 miles away will stock with neat new plants. Ours sell the same ol stuff. I have no trouble with Iris's. I have been trying to focus on more shrubby perennials because my little dogs get the zoomies! lol I too use salvias and have found some to be slug magnets, while others aren't touched? I have also been trying to plant things that remind me of my mom and her gardens. I have one George Tabor Azalea, tons of Tea Olives, (Lord that scent that wafts...probably the most fragrant plant alive..puts even honeysuckle to shame here) several old hydrangeas, daisies...on and on. I am trying to find the old garden pinks, blueish grass like foliage, white bloom, with a strong wafting fragrance...(my mom had a giant patch, 6 x 6 that scented the neighborhood. I have so many memories that are related to garden fragrances......See MoreHow do I paint over pre-painted MDF shiplap?
Comments (19)Are you suggesting we prime the pre-primed mdf? Best practice wisdom is that primed surfaces should be top coated within a given time frame. Usually within two weeks if primed with an oil based product and w/in 30 days for latex products. Primers tend to loose 'tooth' with time. When you purchase a pre-primed product you are all but sure that the ideal window for top coating has elapsed. You also can assume that a top notch priming product was not used. So, yes I would re-prime pre-primed MDF using an oil base primer. Better yet is to avoid pre-primed products in the first place....See Moreawm03
