Brachychiton paradoxus

The Red-flowered Kurrajong, Brachychiton paradoxus, isn't as spectacular as it close relatives like the Queensland Bottle Tree or the Illawarra Flame Tree. It's usually only a small spindly bush becoming almost invisible when all the leaves drop at the start of the dry season but soon shows up again when it bursts into flower. Mine are actually growing naturally on my place, they're very common throughout this area.

Love the intense colour. Nice little bloom.

It's one that you can walk past most of the year without noticing and then suddenly bursts into bloom and hits you head on.
