Liquid vs powdered laundry detergent
Comments (27)I used to live in a hard water area up till 6-7 years ago, I used powders than also without a problem. Sure there was much less suds but suds arnt an indicator of the detergent working. I did however add a tiny bit more detergent at that time. Its true though hard water makes it harder for detergent to work...STPP will solve peoples hard water issues. I don't know aa, I live in a soft water area, powders are almost obsolete here. Really irritates me. I've heard a lot of people across the country complaining powders are hard to find.I have a feeling the day will come when powders will be a thing of the past, maybe every 10 years P&G will produce a Anniversary Edition of one of the Tide offerings in a small box with a ridiculously high price tag. I can't understand why jugs of liquid detergent that are a large amount of water is preferable to ship. Thats another thing some day the liquids will probable come in a tiny 4 ounce bottle with directions to add 32 ounces if water to it. Lol. Ya powders are hard to find....See MoreALL laundry detergent question--pods vs powder
Comments (14)Yes you can use the STPP with whatever laundry supply you want...have you used it before? First you have to find out how much is needed with your water chemistry and amount of water..easy to do..start a full load of laundry. .don't add any detergent or boosters, but add 3T STPP let it agitate to mix it up than feel the water it should feel slippery if its not add more remembering how much you added, agitate and feel again. Once the water feel slippery that's the amount you need ..it means the STPP conditioned the water and is ready to do its job. .than add detergent but reduce the amount start off with 1/2 the amount of detergent you normally use and see how that works, you can always add more detergent if needed. The STPP does much more than soften water it will sequester hard water minerals and hold them in suspension preventing them from being deposited onto clothing. ..does the same with soils keeps them from redepositing onto clothing and aids in rinsing by making sure detergent residue is removed. I love STPP...See MoreKirkland Dishwasher Detergent Pods-- FAIL
Comments (8)I've been using 1/2 of a Miele tablet along with Finish rinse (blue liquid that replaced Jet Dry). It's expensive, but so was a new dishwasher! I also posted this on a Facebook cooking group and I'm not the only one who has had trouble with the pods in their dishwasher and some in their washing machines. I'm done with them! Yesterday I returned them to Costco and the customer service gals were shocked when I showed them my photos....See MorePowdered detergent and saponification?
Comments (7)Thank you so much for the comments. I was afraid that liquids might be the answer. It's not a big deal except there are so few available without OBs. I will check out Tide Pur Clean. Also, I noticed that Cheer liquid gets good reviews for darks in spite of it's OBs, so maybe there are not enough in it to cause the appearance of fading. I did try some further experimentation with Cheer powder to see if I could remove that sour bar soap smell (which, fwiw, is not from body oils, but rather from an oil based deodorant). A second warm wash with Cheer and 1.5 c ammonia did not improve it much, but wash #3 with extra Cheer in hot water did remove most of the smell. So, you all are right about the hot water. These were mostly older, casual clothes, but I just can't imagine washing my special dark clothes in hot! I am going to have to do some more research......See Moremamapinky0
