Need Curb Appeal, Please Help!!!! Any Ideas Welcome!

Hey everyone, I recently got a great deal on a brand new build in Nashville. I know now that the reason I got such a good deal is because it doesn't have the best curb appeal. The inside of the house has a bit of a funky floor plan but that doesn't bother me as much as the outside. The house is in a beautiful neighborhood with ranch style houses on 2 acres of land. I am trying to see if there is anything I can do (budget projects would be nice) to make this house fit in with 60's-70's style ranch homes. Thoughts?

Fruit trees / bushes and a vegetable gardens... all look great... hedge rows, rose gardens, obviously I'm leaning towards planting to make it "your own".. Oh, and a flagpole is still a low cost way to personalize your house, as are Purple Martin Bird houses.

Landscaping will do a lot to improve the curb appeal. The beds by the front door aren't very deep, but you could do some beautiful accents in front of the garage windows and to the right of the home. I feel like the windows could use some trim or modern style shutters. Nice all brick home. Landscaping is the key.

Lindy, on my computer, those colors all look very green. Can you pull up a pale grey-blue instead of grey-green? Also, tan colors would work. I would not go burgundy on an MCM house. Hi Stefny, to post pics you must upload pictures to a place like photobucket..under the picture in photobucket there will be a list of code...copy the one that says html code and come back to garden web and paste it in the box where you type...then click preview...if the picture shows there it will show here. Ps..If I were you I would post this in the garden web forum home decorating..there are quite a few photoshopians there.

There's nothing I hate like being the bearer of bad news. But let's get this over with. That's a pretty decent looking tree you have at the forefront, center of the house. If it's a live oak, in spite of that being an awesome tree, I'd consider having it removed ASAP, as delaying only costs more. I love that tree, but it is a serious big boy and 20' from the foundation is what I would call maximum nearity. (I must make up a word, quarterly.) These things, 30 years from birth, are wall and floor breakers if they are closer than 20'. If one has an expensive, palatial home that will last centuries, he should place this tree even farther away ... 50' probably. In its life, the tree can grow to 200' canopy width. How much street appeal are you after? If it's a lot, then you should consider architectural improvements such as shelter over the entrance area, and expanding the "floor" portion of same. And you must do something about the flat-roofed, mobile home looking portion of the house. The driveway seems to need help, too. Depending on what you're looking for, you may need to supply additional pictures. Some from slightly closer, but that show a wider spread (overlapping photos all taken from the same point of view) and farther away that show how your house fits into the neighborhood (again, overlapping photos from the same point of view if it will not fit into a single photo.)

Post this in the Landscaping forum. There are some great designers there. You house is very nice looking. I would paint the garage doors a warmer color to go with your brick so the the house draws your eye and not the garage doors.

You will probably hear this a lot, but painting your front door a different color would be great. Something completely unexpected like turquoise! Decorative shutters would also break up all the look of the brick (but not painted the same color as the door). Landscaping as others mentioned.

I agree--front door color is wrong. Visit the home decorating forum as well as the landscaping one. It's not a bad house at all. it's just not done yet!

dk, I just posted a picture of my ranch on a thread about closing a window. Believe me, yours is exquisite in comparison to my original overgrown mess. But the landscaping and fun color on the door made all the difference.
