Comments (13)Also be aware any resulting plant may not produce the same quality of flowers that was the bouquet. Actually it's highly unlikely it will. You'll most likely get much shorter stems, flowers that may be slightly different in color and definitely smaller blooms. Florist roses are hybridized especially for cut flowers, Many are grown in Latin or South America where there is volcanic soil using lots of pesticides and fertilizers. They're usually grown at higher altitudes where the sunlight is strongest and daylight is longer. I'm not trying to deter you. I just want you to be aware that your results may not be as satifying as you would expect. Where and how a rose is grown does make a difference. And if you live in a colder growing zone, it may be too tender to survive the winter without a lot of protection....See MoreWANTED: Red Cascading Rose - Raleigh Plant Swap
Comments (2)Hi jdbheartease! I have 3 red cascade roses that have almost formed a hedge. When I planted them in March 2011, they were about 6" tall, and now they have grown up a 3' metal support and cascade down another 6-8 feet. Other than putting in the supports, they have been completely care free! I will look for baby plants for you and let you know what I find. Email me a reminder please! Comments (8)Yes, all 'Dr Huey' from the start (both plants). I have seen color variations on it here as well, although I am not sure I have ever seen it get quite that pale. People ask about this one all the time because it is used as a rootstock for other roses by commercial producer(s). These other roses apparently very often die, leaving the 'Dr Huey' to live on without them, as there are a lot of 'Dr Huey' around. I think in many instances the graft union was left up in the air, leaving the scion vulnerable to a sharp winter - and unable to come back after freezing off, unlike the 'Dr Huey' stock which has an at least partly buried stem (and roots) to grow back from. As may be visible in one of your pictures it tends to be infested with rose mosaic virus - perhaps this is what causes the flower color breaks. Comments (13)That's funny, and it certainly rings true. DH does a huge amount of work in the garden. He does ooh and aah over it and is proud of it, but you're quite right that the colors and style of my flowers aren't exactly what he himself would choose: in spite of a bit of sophistication acquired over the years (he no longer sneers at singles, for example) his own ideal rose would probably be a Hybrid Tea with blooms the size and color of a ripe tomato. He got his own section of garden where he could do whatever he wanted, but, since I don't run it and he doesn't like doing maintenance, it's a sad sight. It has occurred to me as a project to take his garden apart, removing all the rootstocks of dead roses, dig some adequate holes, and plant him the roses that he likes best. I have an itch myself for 'Oklahoma'. After red his favorite rose color is, of course, bright yellow....See MoreRelated Professionals
