Accent chair color??? HELP!!!

I can't decide if my two accent chairs should be teal to match the pillows on the couch (there is also teal in the two large throw pillows..although hard to see) OR yellow to match my throw blanket and one accent garden stool between couch and chair (not seen in this picture). Also, PLEASE share any photos of chairs you think would look good (one requirement...the chair must have arms). Thanks!!!! Please note: that clunky coffee table is on its way out, too. Ugh.

I was thinking that, too. So a combo of all colors...not just the one. :)

Here is what I like, but cannot find :(

damn Pinterest and it's false hope!

IMHO, You seem to be going at this backwards. The chairs, then the print should come first. After you find those then you match the accessories to it. Some prints may look great on one style and but off on another. So first thing to decide is what chairs are you going to be putting there? And also how many? 1 or 2. It seems from the angle of the pic that the room is pretty full as it is. Is that larger leather chair staying as well? Are you planning on adding any tables and/or lamps?

I'm not a bright color or prints girl, but I will say I don't think that shade of yellow quite suits the color of your couch. So if you are going to pull out a color for a bright accent chair, I would lean towards the teal or do I see some deeper gold/orange in there?

I agree with @justgotabme about preferring solid upholstery pieces. I change my mind a lot, so I like to have more solid neutral anchor pieces and then play with color in accents as my mood changes. One thing you can do is to mix up texture. Since you already have leather and a linen-blend, you could do something kind of nubby or with a sheen?

    lukkiirish,

Well, i can't go back in time. I'm not changing the pieces I already have. I want two small accent chairs...not large. The space is large enough. I also have a small round table for in between the two chairs.

    I like the yellow.

Aw I hope I didn't hurt your feelings! Sometimes colors look really different on screen than they do in person anyway! The important thing is it is YOUR house and you do what makes YOU happy!

I'd go with a solid teal- I like the 2nd one aktillery posted.

I'd get your furniture arrangement set, and then start with all your accessories/art. You might want to look for a large piece of art to go over the sofa, that has some of the colors you like. You don't want to base a color scheme from pillows that you probably won't have forever. The mirror would look nice over the fireplace.

I just can't figure out why so many people dislike my living room. I never thought of myself as having poor taste. I've tried the mirror over the fireplace and it's awful...it reflects the ceiling fan....UGLY! The walls are not my color choice, but it's a rental so I'm stuck for one year until the military moves us. The carpet is awful, too. I was thinking of a darker area rug since there is so much light on top of light. I love bright colors and want to use accent chairs as a way to introduce bright colors to the room. Anyways...I like this one:

Don't get too upset that others "don't like your room" Remember you might not like to live in theirs either. Since you get moved around a lot, having fairly neutral colors is probably the best thing you can do. I would pick the chairs you like and then pick up some accent pillows to go with them, hopefully they look good together. It helps to bring them with you when looking. And bet you have another room the throw and the pillows look great in as well.

For the mirror, I will put a spacer behind the frame to get a view I like, left over Styrofoam is easy to work with.

If it helps, I have no plans on sharing my rooms that I am working on here. First, we have a garden and pets so I like slip covers and I can make my own. I picked the wall color to look good with a favorite antique pastel of moms and her collection of teal, turquoise, cobalt and mason jars and glass ware plus a fabric that is likely years out of date. A floral for the pillow back furniture that I got on half price sale from World Market (aka living room for less than $500) Plus it is a tiny house, we have more people than fit if we decorated for the looks and not family. And even though I just got done fixing walls and ceilings I did not move anything electrical so all the ceiling fixtures are centered for the room but not centered once you account for walk ways plus dad thought all the outlets should go at waist height....And I can't do a rug since mom could trip on them.

But we love the way it is coming together and that is what is important

I'd actually paint out the outer trim of the clock the mirror and your new coffee table legs in white or cream and get a comfortable chair in cream or white fabric covers. Then add pops of the teal and a bolder print for the chair and couch. I commend you on being a military family and thank you for your sacrifice and service of yourself or family member. I do like the chair you picked out. I like your room, it looks warm, and homey.

kangadr, I don't see anyone saying they don't like your room! It's a decorating forum with as many opinions as there are people and I think many of us just want to tweak things to our taste. Your room looks cozy and inviting and you've done a nice job of making it suit you and your family. I hope you find some chairs you like - there are some great ones pictured here. I personally love the teal, especially the last one you posted.

I don't see any posts that say they dislike your room. ?? If that was in response to my post, I'm sorry that I offended you.

My point was that chairs are more of an investment than pillows, so I'd be sure you like them on their own, and that they'll work for you long-term, especially if you have to move so often. I like the ones you posted.

If the mirror doesn't work above the fireplace-- it was just an idea. Everyone will give you suggestions, and you can take or leave them. Only you know what really works for your taste :-)

I have found that for me, it's much, much easier to start with the big pieces, and then decide on accessories and their placement, rather than trying to work around them. Just my opinion and preference.

Good luck with your chair search!

I agree no one has said they don't like your room! The whole point of coming on the forum is to ask people about making changes, right? Everyone has different taste, and things can look quite different in pictures than in person anyway.

For what it's worth, I posted a bathroom remodel in the Before and After section and had someone comment that they preferred the "Before." Lol!

Yes, no one is here to hurt feelings and posting can be a learning experience too. Advise offered here is often provided by people who either work in the industry and are kind enough to share little tricks of the trade or people who are decor junkies and have great insight. Next time you'll know, start with your foundation pieces and accessorize afterwards. Build a board or find an inspiration picture to help guide you.

The chair you just posted is lovely, reminds me of a wing chair.

Sounds like what you need is for people to suggest chair styles that will work with your permanent pieces, which is mainly the sofa and the table that will go between the two chairs. Then from there you can choose a fabric. Could we see the table? Where would you be shopping for these chairs?

    To all,

i apologize for sounding so emotional (my son started kindergarten today). This move was a rough one. We are only here for 11 months and then we will move again, so I feel very disconnected. You are all right...no one has been rude or offensive. It was me. So, let me start over with my vision:

The couch and brown leather recliner are staying. I would like to add two accent chairs (with arms and facing the side of the coffee table) with a small accent table in between. We always have company and there is never enough seating. I've always invisioned accent chairs to either have a bold pattern or bold color; however, I'm open to something more neutral with bold accents. I've also planned on buying a large area rug...perhaps the color should come from there). Finally, I need a new coffee table...one that is simple. My esthetic is a mix of old world and French country. So...what style of chair and what color? What kind of coffee table?

No worries, that's a really fun (and yes a little anxious) new experience, I hope your son's first day of school was GRAND!!! In regards to the chairs and all things you want to invest in, you say you are only there for 11 months, aren't you worried these things may not work in the next place? It's just a been there made that mistake thing for me....we lived in a condo for a year before moving into our house in another state. I did it up and made it home and guess what? We paid to have it all moved and it's been in the basement ever since! All ten years! Stuff just didn't work in the new (for us) house and I ended up starting from scratch. The last chair you posted has my vote too....it is the most comfy looking of them all.

Aw, bless you, kangadr! I hope your baby boy had a wonderful first day, and came home with stories that warmed your heart. :-)

You're killin' me with the turquoise chairs. That's one of my all-time favorite colors, and the pieces you've found in that shade are just stunning. Particularly the last one -- serious chair lust here!

I am a turquoise lover too, so I also love your chairs. I just ordered slip covers for my two living room recliners in a solid peacock. I prefer all my main furniture be solid color, and patterns are in the accessories.
