I believe it can work, but it won't quite have the same rich feel if everything were brass.
I have mixed metals in our kitchen, but with a stainless fridge, brushed nickel drawer knobs and pulls, and a antique gold light fixture over the island and brass door (as in pantry and entry) hardware.

I think it would look "off" with a chrome faucet and brass hardware, if you are going for the same simplicity as your inspiration. I love navy with brass, but I prefer the cleaning ease of chrome in a bathroom. I think you could replace all the brass elements with chrome, though I might go for nickel, which is a little richer looking.

I think I'd go with all chrome, or all brass. Is your faucet returnable?

Yes Daisy, I do. Actually chrome is timeless when it comes to hardware in bathrooms, so you can't go wrong with it.

Oh, this is helping so much! Okay, all same metals and painted vanity possibly black, possibly navy or other deep blue. Do we like the round mirror?

Your inspiration pic is gorgeous, and like others have said, you might not get the same with chrome as with the brass. I had the same conundrum, I am going vintage, and using polished chrome faucet and hardware. I initially fell for two starburst antique gold sconces. Everyone looked at me as if I had lost my mind. What I am doing to try gold in the space is in my mirror. I got a vintage beveled glass mirror in an unusual shape (one of the 60's laminated ones that came with a furniture set). I'm painting it textured gold. This way, if I hate the mix, I haven't committed in anything expensive or permanent, but it is still a presence in the space. Plus, the mirror was $5 and all the paint was $10, so way cheaper than the pottery barn mirror I was eyeing, and no loss if it's an epic fail.

crl, I love those pics, too! I'm starting to feel relieved that the choices I've made so far are pretty safe and can look good in a number of different ways.

That's a great idea anne. I think I'll just look for a cheap mirror or maybe one that can be returned. I remember once I was convinced that a round mirror would look great over my mantle, but when I actually put one there, it was so not right.

Just checked Ikea and they have a few options for round mirrors that would fit.

I like round mirrors, but I think the tough part is hanging them at a height that "looks" right, but still is the right height for people to see themselves. It would be a challenge if anyone is very short or very tall.

Round vs oval mirror depends on the space you have. In the inspiration pic, there's plenty of room for the round...in some of the other pics posted, you'll see there isn't, esp where the lights are mounted on the sides of the mirror instead of above.

Oh gosh, I hadn't even thought about the practicalities of round - only aesthetics. There is just one light going above and I'm kind of considering this to be my DHs bathroom, but reality is that we will both likely use it. Maybe I should be thinking of full wall mirror. I know in our other small bathroom, it is nice for us both to be able to use the mirror at the same time even though there is only one sink.

Another option is to DIY silver leaf a mirror. DH made a basic rectangular frame based on the appropriate size of a Lowe's mirror, then I silver leafed it for our bathroom. It's been in there several years, and still looks good.

While the round mirror looks good, I don't think it's as functional as a full wall mirror. When you're getting ready and maybe sharing the space, the pretty round mirror won't be so pretty anymore. :)

Guess how I learned about round mirrors? :-) I hung one in our downstairs bath, thought it was perfect. 6'2" DH got a nice view of his chest/neck and had to bend over to see his face. Oops.

I think they're great in powder rooms, but not very functional for daily grooming.

Love your inspiration bathroom pix, jlc, so much more interesting to me than the all-calacatta marble that is so en vogue. Now I wish I could redo our MBA!

love that first pic! i am doing our guest bath in very similar fashion. super dark navy vanity with brass pulls, chrome bridge faucet, brass sconces and probably chrome framed medicine cabinet. wall tile is carrara subway and floor is basketweave carrara. so i totally think you can mix metals. the only thing i've been going back and forth with a bit is possibly doing the vanity in a dark gray like bm kendall charcoal instead of the midnight navy as i think it might be better with the carrara. but i don't want the space to look too gray. anyhoo, this was my inspiration pic, and notice they mixed different tones of brass here and also used bronze:

Ooooohhhh, I love that agk! I keep going back and forth over painting our vanity or leaving it stained the way it is now and then I see a pic like that and think, yup, gotta paint it. Love that mirror, too.

Perfect timing on your thread! I'm going to do a spur of the moment bath remodel (project creep) and have no idea where to start. These pictures are giving me plenty to think about! I'll take some measurements and start my own thread, soon :)

I think you can mix hardware and personally I like the look where everything doesn't match, but I do think it's helpful if you can 'marry' the finishes. For instance using items that combine metals, like a chrome faucets or pulls that have touches of brass.
