Does anyone know anything about Bonsais?

I know there's a forum for bonsais but it's a slow one; since people seem more active here and very knowledgable, can anyone answer this question about my bonsai leaves?

I'm sorry for posting a non-succulent question in this forum - not sure how frowned upon that is or if I'm breaking some kind of forum etiquette but I'm just worried about this little guy!

You are right not to post this on a succulent thread. you actually need the forum on diagnosing diseases. Your plant is a tropical shrub or tree. Cant' tell what kind though I thought it might be a form of ficus. but you mentioned a cherry.

The good news is the plant is healthy. Brown bits do happen but the damage is minimal and not fatal.

. Anyway, the bitten part is not bitten actually. More like little spots that died off and the brown bits fell away. This little brown spots on leaves occur for possibly a few reasons.

1. Inconsistent watering. If the plant suffered a dry spell and then suddenly got watered, some portions of the leaves (and branches) die off. The flood of water 'explodes' the cells and kills them. This is why you need to water consistently but to be careful not to overwater. When you do that, the roots drown and the entire crown will go brown. Bonsais can get root bound depending age and how long since they've been repotted. So roots may not be able to absorb surface water or oxygen or may have drowned in too much water. Happens a lot with root bound plants. If it is root bound then its time to root trim and repot in fresh soil (something that should be done by seasoned gardeners).

The clue is in the location of the browning. It almost always occurs at the tips of the leaves.
1. Sun spots. A dew drop may have turned into a magnifier with the sun focusing on that one spot and killing off the cells. its like using a magnifying glass to start a fire. You can avoid this by watering only roots. If you need to spray the foliage to prevent spider mites and other sorts of indoor nasties, you need to put a fan nearby to circulate air and to evaporate the water on the leaves.
3. bacterial or virus. Watch for a spread - if that happens, it might be one or both.

I remember when we were younger in Texas. We watched a big ole turtle walkin down the road towards Zeboes park. We walked along side it till it got to the main road then my twin sister and I each grabbed a side of the turtle's shell and picked it up. It just relaxed and enjoyed the ride. We heard a hissing when we first went to pick it up but after that it didn't make any noises at all. It was relaxed and non agressive at all. I suppose that is when I first fell in love with turtles. I have encountered a few agressive turtles but not many. I am very cautious of COOTERS tho. I am curious if that is a nickname for a certain type of turtle that is indigenous to South Carolina or if it is a real type of turtle? I guess I will just google it. I am not at all fond of water birds. Our experiences with water fowl has been more problematic than anything else. I have had ducks and geese chase and attack our daughters when they were toddlers. They would chase my daughters and take their bottles and any food they may have had in their hands or mouths. They have attacked my chihuahuas and my cats. I have seen small birds dive bomb my cats. Tho I must admit, it is quite comical to watch. Those little birds do damage to my four legged friends. I can't stand the bird droppings all over everything. Turtles are good. I could not imagine eating anything soooooooooo cute.

I have a $20 1x1 brand, which looks like the Leaf and RCA - just a notebook sized piece of flexible vinyl. It does have to sit in the window to get all of the local stations (because of the room site and where I want the TV in the room. Absolutely easy to connect and then have the TV scan for channels. MarilynC, you might like to have a Roku. No continuing fees beyond the initial purchase (anywhere from $25 and up, depending on the model - I have the cheapest and it meets all my needs.) Roku offers lots of free streaming channels, including news channels that would include Houston. Of course, they also offer other channels for a subscription price, which mostly run $5-6/month. Right now I am paying for Curiosity Stream and Acorn; for July & August I paid for Peacock Premium so that I could watch the Tour de France, The Tour of Spain, and some of the Olympics.
