Comments (13)I'm sure your intentions were well Gorgi, I have 3 very good friends who live in Corleone, Provincia Di Palermo, Sicilia. Alot of Americans inparticular go to the village to visit and all talk about the Mafia. Corleone was never really known for the Mafia or Cosa Nostra, ect. The only reason why the godfather movies was centered around Corleone was it was cheap to film there as the main Actor, Al Pacino, All his family was in real life from the Town. The Pacino family was very welcoming to the film crew ect. Al did say they were a little concerned with the Mafiosa aspect of the movie, and that villagers were angry they would support the filmcrew there for bringing such a horrible stereotype to the people in the town. I heard from someone who said that anytime the word Corleone comes up, they think of the Mafia. Most of the People in Corleone hate that negative aspect of the movie and what it brought to their beautiful area of the world. Would you agree however that to answer Brigita's original post was that the Sal's Corleone is a rare fig to have due to the mixup with the names. One could say that that kinda brought up the hipe about this particular variety, considering that Belleclaire was the original owners of the Sal's Corleone, then with the mixup at Edible landscaping comparing two very distinctive trees, Hardy Chicago and Sal's as being the same. I would imagine if you could trace your sal's Corleone somehow to the Original Belleclaire that would be a real find considering how people swapped and butchered up the name? And also with there being two trees named sal's. I kinda wanted the tree for my Uncle Sal due to the namesake. Wonder if anyone else has any answer to Brigita's original question. I would Assume the Di'Paola brothers got it from a Siciliano named Sal who most likely brought it from his homeland in Corleone. Whatya think gorgi? Ciao...See MoreWhy does this have to be so hard?
Comments (4)I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time. I don't know exactly what your project entailed, but it seems the contractor was being overly optimistic by saying the job would take only one week. Bathroom remodels can be a real pain for the small space, with plumbing issues, tile and whatnot involved. I'd suggest to keep your cool with the contractor and sit down and explain that you find the tile unacceptable and ask them to redo the botched bullnose. He'll probably balk if he wants to just get away from the job, but by rights, he should offer to redo the poor work -- at his cost. Shower pans are not easy either and are prone to leak if not done properly. I would suggest that you very plainly tell him that he if doesn't fix the errors you will report him to the BBB and possibly take him to small claims court to cover the cost of having someone come in and do the job right. I know its hard, but the best bet is to remain as calm as possible and allow the contractor to take ownership of the problem and feel he has an opportunity to fix it to your satisfaction -- and if he doesn't want to work with you, your other option is to fire him, finish it yourself or hire someone else and take him to court to recover your additional costs. Everyone can make mistakes, but the difference is those who take responsibility for them and those who try to pass the buck, take the buck and run away....See MoreWhy Does it Take So Long to Do a Kitchen Even with a GC
Comments (20)Greendesigns, you had me with - "Of course, then there are the issues you find out during demolition and the mistakes that you the homeowner and your trades will make. The only surety that you can have for a remodel is that it will cost more and take longer than you think it will." ...but you lost me at the $500 over budget part. That would be truly funny if it were not painfully way too low. Try thousands upon thousands over budget. Of course, our reno involved more than a kitchen, but the overages were for many reasons. One of which was our gc trying to a la carte us to death. We had our master bedroom extended and yet he felt the need to charge extra, after contract, to re-set up the cable in the same bedroom. I can go one with many more examples, but that one illustrates well. Another reason is just about everyone who touched our job did something major wrong. The cabs were delivered shy 13 cabinets (big delay). Someone threw out the below the counter parts to our faucet. The architect drew our plans without going all the way into the stand up attic and assumed a whole section of the house had beams running in one direction when they went another way. The mistake was not figured out until our roof was ripped off, in Dec., no less. That lost us another month (and a lot of money). The sink leaked, the dw leaked, the icemaker leaked, the electricians screwed up the bathroom vent fan. They messed up the thermostat and heating (took weeks to sort out and still is not right). They installed the eyebrow window wrong and it took weeks of arguing and troubleshooting to try to rectify what was done. The cab installers made the island the wrong height and then damaged a cover panel. The counter guy mismeasured the island counters and had to remake them (6 month delay!). The gc's guys installed the vent for the kitchen in the wrong place, then at the wrong height, twice, and now it only functions as a light and I can bang my head on it if I am not careful. The house had rot in the sills which was discovered when the back of it was torn off. Our doors were delivered in the wrong sizes and one was warped. The flooring company sold me the wrong products so they ended up failing after installation and will be redone soon. Our propane line was installed to the wrong location so we got rejected on our c.o.s and can't hook up our stove yet (10 months and counting). To put it mildly, nothing went well the first try. If all had been done properly and professionally, it could have been done much sooner and with less stress and closer to budget. It seems like the good gcs are less prevalent based on speaking to others who renovate locally and gw these days.... In theory, a gc should make a project go smoother and faster....See MoreWhy is Trump so orange?
Comments (110)Melania look very pretty in her Karl Lagerfeld outfit. I don't tink there is any argument that she is not a beautiful woman and wears clothes well when she's wearing the. However, look at Trump in that picture. Tie too long (although only a little in this photo), baggy saggy looking suit pants and even his shirt cuffs are not matching. I have to give Melania credit for being able to maneuver in the very high and skinny heels that she wears. I saw a oicture of her arriving in Florida in today's paper and her heels were impressive....See Moremaddie260
