Comments (4)It probably needs to be potted on to a slightly bigger pot NEXT SPRING, as for growing and flowering it in Canada I really do not have much of an idea. For a start 5C is not a worry. Think about the climate where Cyms grow to perfection in the USA and try and emulate the conditions there.....somewhere around Santa Barbara???? The purists would clean off those old dead leaf bracts, but do that carefully because this is the time of year when the flowering spikes emerge from the base of pseudobulbs, this is more likely to occur of the side of the plant facing away from the Camera in your pics. The light....300 hundred sunny days fairly evenly spread throughout the year here where they are garden plants. And the temp thing, that stuff is written for climates that are generally too warm to flower the plants well. 20C minimum on summer nights is not a worry where you live. Lack of winter Sunlight might be your main problem, find some complete culture notes written for Canada to help you give the plant the best possible conditions during the coming winter. I've been looking at all the cymbidiums at floral departments and garden centers here, with a view to trying one in my girlfriend's cold greenhouse but so far am not finding any with small features in combination with deep or otherwise striking coloring. There used to be an orchid company near here with an entire cymbidium house, it was highly ventilated and cool inside.
