looking for tall hosta
Comments (10)Is it possible that you're thinking of the Giant Gunnera? It's not a hosta, but it's very very large, 6 to 8 feet tall, and grown for its foliage. Wikipedia: Giant Gunnera, including photo Dave's Garden: Giant Gunnera Photos Von Bourgondien (vendor): Gunnera (but they usually sell out, so order for fall delivery the year before you want to grow it. Dave's will offer you six other vendors. I only mention VB because that's where I saw it first). World Plants (vendor): Gunnera with photo and detailed planting instructions, emphasizing shade, water, shade, water One of the Dave's Garden photos, visit there to see the original and the credits, etc.:...See MoreLooking for a large [tall] chartreuse hosta

Comments (6)Yes, they need time. Another reason the previous owners may have had them super tall is that they could have been crowded in. They tend to grow taller that way. I have one hosta, in its 6th year, that has progressively gotten taller and taller. This year it's 32" tall. But at year 2, it was MAYBE 8" tall. It needs time to develop big fat roots.... it needs to be in the same spot for a period of time... get it into the ground and keep it there. Give it lots of water, and a good amount of sunlight... not enough to scorch it, but a few hours a day. And patience!...See MoreTheHostaCottage
