Help/Feedback on Appliance Choices for a kitchem remodel
Comments (5)I have a Liebherr All-Fridge and Gaggenau All-Freezer. The Liebherr has nice bins and drawers but not the quality of Gaggenau-Thermador-Bosch(BSH) built-ins.The mechanicals on the Liebherr are as good and efficient as anything out there and better than most. Doors on the BSH have a heavy or some might say luxurious feel. Liebherr has light weight doors or some might say cheap/or cheezy feeling. The bio-fresh safes work as well as anything out there. Thermador DW are rebadged mid-upper end Bosch units. For the price you would think you got top-of-the-line Bosch units but, alas, you don't. If getting the Miele I would get at least the Crystal because that has the built-in water softner.Unless of course you have really soft water in your area. Both KA and Thermador have had electric oven trouble in the immediate past. Both claim issues have been resolved. Not too many buyers on this forum to confirm issues resolved. I would look at Electrolux wall ovens if looking at upper mid class or Wolf/Gaggenau if looking at top end. The Wolf /Gaggenau microwaves are seperate units but you could just buy the Sharp microwave drawer and place it underneath the wall oven and save some money. Definetly take Bluestar cooktop/rangetop over Thermador/Wolf....See MoreKitchen Remodel - Feedback on Proposed Layout?
Comments (36)kksmama - I am really liking this layout also. I never thought I'd be able to have an island centered on a large range in this kitchen and am thrilled that it might work. I think I agree about the prep sink being on the island. One good thing about my clean up sink now is I can face people at the peninsula when I'm washing and prepping food, and I'd still be able to do that if the prep sink is here. I'm willing to sacrifice some storage space under the island to allow an 18" overhang on 2 sides so I can fit 4 seats there. Prep space and seating are my main priorities for the island. I'll draw it tonight when I have access to my computer. Sena - I love, love the drawing. Thank you! I will definitely consider a narrow oval table for the banquette. I usually prefer rectangle or round tables, but the oval will probably work better here - more table space than round and doesn't have sharp corners to bang into. Great idea! I'm wondering, if I put the prep sink in the island, 1) where do you think the fridge should go on the DR wall - near the doorway or closer to the range, and 2) which direction should the prep sink face - the fridge/pantry or range wall (I'd like 3 stools facing the range if possible so I'm thinking this may affect placement of sink)?...See MoreLooking for feedback on my kitchen remodel plans
Comments (14)I agree with everyone above. If you want a more open kitchen, and can accept a laundry closet, then possibly this plan will work: You could keep laundry supplies in the cabinets above the litter box, and could work storage for a laundry basket into the area below or beside the oven--many European kitchens have the laundry incorporated. There is extra storage on the peninsula, with a raised ledge to hide dishes, or one level, which would make a nice serving area. Prep is now facing the LR. If a MW is not part of the wall oven stack, it can be put on an upper shelf beside the oven, convenient to the fridge....See MoreComplete Kitchen Remodel - hoping for some feedback / advice. Thanks!!
Comments (17)Putting your refrigerator against an outside wall with the entry door opening against it will not only bang up your refrigerator but could also make it difficult for you to open your refrigerator doors entirely in order to remove the shelves and/or veggie drawers for a thorough cleaning if your refrigerator hinge were to be on the left. What is outside that exterior door -- any chance it is a porch or deck and you could change the hinged door for a sliding glass one? If you know you will have a double door refrigerator, and since you could clean shelves without removing them, the remaining concern would be if you were planning to put a wall on the right side of the refrigerator. Wouldn't; just leave the side of the refrigerator show between the countertop and overhead cabinet and set your refrigerator far enough out so the cabinets don't interfere with opening the refrigerator door all the way. Consider moving your wall ovens to the right: have the wall to the right of your wall ovens be even with the opening to the right of it so that you can put a wider countertop between the cooking surface and the ovens. You need space to set a large heavy pot on both sides of any cooktop. Is the dining area within this kitchen your only dining area? If not, you might well consider other alternatives in lieu of both an island and a table -- you could create one very long island ... ... but only put base cabinets in the one end of it nearest the sink; ... or put base cabinets only on each end and put your beverage fridge on one end and other storage in the other end; ... or you could put your base cabinets and beverage fridge only in the middle with a "pedestal" table in the "dining" end of the kitchen and, perhaps, a "desk" end or a pedestal for seating for two nearer to the sink. http://xlian.me/the-most-attractive-bar-height-kitchen-table-island-home-decor/kitchen-island-ideas-breakfast-bar-kitchen-island-spectacular-in-bar-height-kitchen-table-island-prepare/ You can keep the island countertop a rectangle the same width for its entire length and/or have it widen beyond the double ovens and still have room for your six chairs. In a smaller kitchen, if at all possible, round the four corners of any rectangular island....See Morepractigal
