This is the REAL Broceliande rose

Okay, here it goes.

In my other Broceliande thread I had posted the wrong rose picture!!!! I have 2 roses that I didn't know - one was Broceliande (striped) the other was St. Ethelburga (pink). When the first pink bloomed (I assumed because there was no striping that it was St. Ethelburga) Seemed like a good guess. Now neither rose turned out to be striped - but I continued my thinking that the first one was St. Ethelburga - but it's not! The rose I was showing as the unknown in my other thread was really St. Ethelburga.

So this is the real rose that was supposed to be Broceliande but isn't. It has only bloomed once so far -but there is one more small bud that I see.

I have no picture (I looked through everything). I will resurrect this when it blooms again. The bud is very tiny though - so it will be a long while.

This must be the stupidest thread in a long while if not ever.

Not to worry, Carol... many of us are used to experiencing these confusing 'senior moments' - although I believe it's now ageist to use the phrase. I'm sure we're all enjoying accompanying you through the maze... and looking forward to the new photograph/s, whenever you can get them up here.

I am frankly intimidated by (and a bit suspicious of) those who have their garden so organized that they know exactly what each plant is, and where it's supposed to be. Like Robert Herrick, I take a certain Delight in Disorder:

"A careless shoe-string, in whose tie

I see a wild civility:

Do more bewitch me, than when art

Is too precise in every part."

When you have a flower photo that's useful for ID, we'll be glad to make some guesses with you...

I have SIMSALABIM and mine only occasionally reverts back to it's mama which is likely (I assume) FRISCO, a plain yellow. Maybe one bloom per season will be all yellow. The only problem I see with the rose is that the blooms are rather small. They don't usually get more than about 2-3". Disease for me is only a bit of powdery mildew in the early spring. Mine's still in a pot, so I imagine it would do much better if it were in the ground. I wonder if it's more of a hot weather rose, and maybe that's why it does better for me.

I AM A COMPLETE IDIOT!!! This rose is from Hortico and it is St. Ethelburga. I had a flash of insight last night in bed. It is also a new bare root this year. I looked on hmf - and my rose is definitely St. Ethelburga - which I had ordered - duh. I am going to start a new thread with the rose that is supposed to be Broceliande - but isn't (which I had thought because it wasn't striped must be St. Ethelburga) Sheesh. That's OK, Carol (pat, pat). You should read (hope it's been sent to oblivion) the first post I ever made on this forum (actually the antique rose one). I was trying to be funny--thud! Like a lead balloon. Anyway, I've enjoyed this so far--just the humor in it, and do hope you get the mystery rose figured out. Meanwhile, enjoy St. Ethelburga. It's a beautiful rose. Yeah Seil's right. Could just be a difference in location or soil, or even rootstock. I have the McGredy yellow and orange striped rose MARVELLE (which J&P named TROPICAL SUNSET) in a full sun area and it grows to around 4 1/2ft. I've had it for probably 15yrs+. A few yrs later, I bought the rose called RAINBOW NIAGARA and it's planted in a semi-shady spot, growing to over 6ft. The blooms are similar, yet to me are different. But apparently it's been determined that they are the same rose, it's just that the Canadian supplier changed the name from the J&P chosen name. So just being in different locations in the yard these two roses are different enough to seem like they are not the same rose.

Oh this is not a stupid thread at all. I discovered quite a few roses I want on that Palatine site, thanks a bunch. ( just kidding). :)

Virginia - I love the poem! That's what my perennial garden is like - willy nilly and don't hold the mayo!! :) But since my roses are in pots (glacial till makes it very difficult to grow roses in the ground) - I like to know which ones they are. :) Thanks for helping with the guessing!!

Altorama - Yes!!! They have wonderful roses!!!! And this is the first time, they've made a slip up on sending the wrong rose.

Comtesse (what a lovely moniker!!) - It sure seemed like I was lost in a maze!! Very confusing!! :)
