It's August 201- How is your build progressing?

It's August, and appropriate for the season, hot, hot, hot here in SC. This has been a brutal summer- glad I'm mostly working indoors! The weather has a way of beating you up, though. We hadn't had a decent rain here in 3 months, but a couple days ago I had 4,000 lbs. of reclaimed flooring on my open trailer, and half way through unloading it (by hand), the heavens opened up. Luckily, I was able to back the trailer into the garage before the storm really hit. We had over an inch of blessed rain!

Although most of you know me, I re-introduce myself from time to time because of the turn-over of house builders. I'm the old man here, slowly building my house myself, single-handed. Our little house is nearly done; the flooring is one of the last steps. For the first time since we started, we have set a deadline. We are hosting Thanksgiving this year, so that's the deadline for 'completion'. Some things will remain to be done (there will ALWAYS be something!), but soon we will officially declare ourselves done.

Welcome to all of the recent build starters! Congratulations to all of our recent 'graduates'! And hugs and prayers for all of you in the middle of this craziness we call 'Building a Home'. I hope that as folks finish their builds and get on with their lives, they stop by periodically to see how it's going for the rest of us. Alumni are always welcome here!

If you're going to build, are building, or have recently built a home, share your experience (and pictures) with us!
