Lance- Actually none of the roses are going to be very near each other. Thanks for reminding me about the size of Tuscany Superb though, as I did want a rose to balance Belle de Crecy on the other side of a bay tree. How about Orpheline de Juillet instead? I guess I just got caught up in Gallica Greed! Olga- Orpheline de Juillet wasn't on your list; do you know anything about it? Other than the woman who gave me BdC, I don't know anyone that gardens, except for completely vegetable gardens (I do veggies too). I do want the roses to spread out a bit, and I am quite prepared to be ruthless (I'm weird - I like pulling plants out almost as much as I like growing them). Rosefolly, fortunately the two Belinda's Dream specimens I've seen locally, in gardens less dry and hot than mine, had no mildew, so I'm hopeful. Daisy, from all the input, including yours, I've decided that Heritage will never grace my garden. I do have an order in for Potter and Moore, a rather obscure small Austin rose, and I'll let you all know how it does. Cass, your valuable advice about Sophie's Perpetual is very much appreciated. It will definitely have an effect on where I plant this rose. I've definitely decided against all the others you mention, except perhaps Mc Clinton's Tea, even though it's not the most beautiful rose in my eyes. Deadheading doesn't bother me, it's something I like to do regularly anyway. Buff, I'm so glad your Carefree Beauty does well for you. It's just a rose I want to try and see how it does for me. We have Mohawk carpet and are very happy with it. The carpet in our basement rec room is made with Sorona which is made from corn, and we are very happy with it and we are also happy with the nylon mohawk carpet that we used in our bedrooms and upstairs hallway. I don't remember the details, but the basics are type of fiber (wool (expensive), nylon (usually can't go wrong with it), sorona, polyester, etc.), density (the denser the better) and backing. There is a price point at which the backings generally change from one type to another--I don't recall the names of the different backings but it is worth it to get the better backing, especially if you are considering berber because if you have the cheaper backing and get a snag with berber, you can have a run that goes across the whole room. And don't skimp on the pad as a good pad will make your carpet last much longer. We had wool carpet at our old house and, IMO, you can't beat wool. However, budget constraints kept us from getting it for our new house. I recommend that you read all the carpet buying guides that you can find on the internet and then go over to the flooring forum with your specific questions. After you have picked a brand, read the manufacturer's web site too. As for the Sorona--ours is an off white berber and my son dropped a full glass of red kool-aid on it--there was red kool-aid EVERYWHERE, but it all cleaned up without leaving any stains.
