Several more likely possibilities. Is this what you mean by Jump Start lights? If so they use T5 bulbs which put out more heat and more intense light and with a broader spectrum than regular fluorescents (which are T8 and T12s) so have to be kept further away from the seedlings. Most likely your first true leaf that looks misshapened, small and crinkled has been burned by either heat or UV. Window sunlight makes little to no difference and that small amount of difference in temp makes no difference either and boron deficiency in seedlings is essentially non-existent. Then there is the possibility of pest damage - aphids, spider mites or most likely fungus gnats. One other possibility that while rare since most no longer use compost in their seedling mix but seems to have come up several times this year for folks, is ethylene poisoning. That can happen and produce those symptoms if there is decomposing organic matter in the immediate area. Things like decomposing compost, ripening fruit, or staring mix that may have developed some anaerobic bacteria, etc. Hope this helps. Dave

If you can see the green caterpillar then most likely it's the cabbage looper. Sometimes called an inchworm. I just flick them off into a coffee can with some detergent and water. You can use BT which kills them by being systemic. That means it is actually inside the plant and the plant is now deadly to the worm. I've never used it since it MUST have some effect on the rest of the world. I'm probably being a bit paranoid there. Try the detergent first. The damage to your plant, going by the picture, isn't severe as yet. By the way, those cute little white butterflies we see all summer are the culprit. Some people spray a little cheap vanilla extract on the plants and it seems to confuse the butterfly (moth). They go everywhere and apparently recognize your brassicas by aroma. Makes sense. Then they lay their eggs and along comes the hungry caterpillar. Hope all this helps somewhat. Best wishes with your plants.

1. You let let it get way too old. 2. While in your climate you may be able to get with away with self wrapping types, heads exposed to sunlight will turn pink to purple when exposed to sun. Cauliflower has a short harvest window. The heads should be good if promptly harvested. If they turn overly quick perhaps you should tie up the heads to keep the sun from reaching them.

The thing I use for flea beetles on eggplants that is completely non-toxic to anything, is diatomaceous earth. I soak down the plants, tops and bottoms of the leaves, then I "poof" on the diatomaceous earth powder all over the plants. When flea beetles try to get in there, they either get gooped up in the mud or punctured by the sharp edges of the crushed diatomes. Once I get the plants through the stage where they are little, they normally can fend for themselves, but if I notice a new attack I'll treat again right after a rain when I know I will have dry weather over about a week. That usually does the beetles in in. I've read that for gardening we are supposed to use a special diatomaceous earth made for gardening, but long ago, over twenty years ago, I bought a large bag of the stuff, and it filled three five gallon buckets which I am still using. I suspect that it is the swimming pool type, but even so I know that all that was in it was diatomaceous earth, and it works at discouraging pests. I use it on eggplants, beans (good for bean beetles), and squash (for squash bugs, but never seems to be enough to completely deter them). I have an old timey dust pump thingy, but found that I prefer using an old plastic pringles can with holes drilled in the bottom and a snap on lid. I found that if I only partially fill it and hold it on its side, I can poof the container and shoot out the dust. I keep it standing in a tin can that holds it, with the drilled hole end down in the can.
