French Tulle Netting
Comments (25)Hello all, I know this is an old thread but I thought I would post my results with the tulle. I've been growing blueberry bushes for 3 years. Yup, blueberry bushes. The blueberries never got harvested because the birds took them all. Bird netting did not work -- somehow the birds found a way to get in. This year I was cleaning out my fabric stash and came upon some bronze color tulle. Why not I thought. I waited until the berries formed and then the wrap began. My blueberries grow in 20 gallon tubs so wrapping them was easy. I waited. Several days I saw the birds ""dive bombing"" the bushes and pecking furiously away at the tulle. DH had the idea to double wrap the bushes -- so we did. The birds continued to peck away at the tulle but they were not successful in damaging the berries or getting inside the tulle netting. I can report that Chandler blueberries are delicious and we harvested several pint baskets. Tulle will have a permanent place in my pest management arsenal. The tulle will be replaced next year -- it is no longer any good. I will also be placing tulle over cabbage, kale, lettuce and other crops which are popular with the caterpillars and worms. Cheers, DL...See MoreTulle etc.
Comments (10)I don't use tulle for pepper maggots, but I cover all my plants every evening with it to keep deer from munching it all down. You can find it at any fabric store or at Walmart in the fabric section. I use the larger mesh which is about $1.25/yard, and it's 72" wide. The finer mesh might cost a little more per yard. Unless you were shopping at a bridal store, it should NOT be expensive! It rips easily if you poke something through it(I'm not careful with it, I just tug it down over my tomato stakes), but hey, it's cheap and should last at least a season. It's light and doesn't weigh down the plants. I just got some of the finer mesh to make DH a mosquito hood for fishing....See More$50 a yard to install 32 oz. nylon carpet? HUH?
Comments (9)A few years back in our other home, we had a local flooring company quote us carpet for our bedroom and hall. Their quote was $42/yd. installed which we thought was very high (this was about 8 yrs. ago). I searched online and found the exact same carpet (Mohawk, I believe) that I could buy from a distributor in Dalton, GA. It was $14/yd., $75 to ship it to us and we hired a local installer for a couple hundred bucks. We picked up the pad at our local big box for a reasonable price. I am all for supporting the local businesses, but not when their markups are this excessive....See MoreLooking for instructions for crocheted nylon pot scrubber
Comments (2)I make mine with the old netting. not the fine stuff you find now. I cut 1 1/2 - 2 inch strip and just use the chain st. I make mine round. After you get it as large as you want, then you decrease. I leave a long two or three inch tail and then poke it into the scrubber. This makes a nice firm scrubber. Thanks for the site. I might try the square ones, but I really like the round ones. Once you try it you'll figure it out. Goodluck...See MoreSeysonn_ 8a-NC/HZ-7
