I'm pretty sure slugs or earwigs were the culprit with mine in the very beginning. There were a couple that had the cotyledons completely eaten off before they made it out of the ground, and the ones that did come up had slug holes in them within a couple days. Once I started putting out Sluggo, most of the damage ceased. If you go out with a flashlight at night, look for slugs. You won't see them in the daytime, and as was the case with mine, there doesn't seem to always be their icky slime trail to give away their presence. Sluggo works great, and is supposed to be less toxic than say, Corey's (an unopened box of which smells so bad sitting on a shelf in my garage, that I keep meaning to Freecycle it away). I've found that beer traps work, to an extent, but more to indicate the presence of slugs than to kill any large number of them. I mean, maybe it'd work if I set out tons of traps, but let's face it, I'm never going to want to waste my good beer on slugs!

Drippy's right, plunk those babies back in, add some potting soil where needed, water them. How about the eye part of a hook and eye latch screwed into your wall, secure your plant stand with a piece of plastic cord or clothes line. I've got a couple of things held into place that were loosened here with those eye screws.... We had winds too. Heck with the plants house, I thought my own was going to blow away. The 100' tree laying on it may have been holding in down :) No front porch windows left and that was only wind, not the tree. I have a blown-loose sambucus tied to the front of my house with one of those eye screws, another holding a now tippy trellis steady until we can get to a more permanent fix. Those plants are tougher than you think :) If pieces of any of them broke by being dumped on their heads, it may be a good idea to remove anything jagged with sharp pruners so you don't run the risk of secondary damage by insects or disease. Good clean cuts heal faster.

I have an 8 year old Boxer, Millie, that had her first seizure just over a year ago. It was long and violent and tortuous to watch lasting well over 3 minutes. I immediately took her to the vet and he started her on Phenobarbital and Valium. She had several more smaller ones until the levels were where they needed to be. In the year since she's had dozens, some worse than others, and we've added Potassium Bromide to the mix. She continues to have small focal seizures lasting a few seconds almost daily. She was hospitalized last month with Pancreatitis. While there she had one larger and one smaller seizure. Since she's come home she seems to be deteriorating. She sleeps most of the days away. She has difficulty walking, stumbles or falls when she stands still for more than a few seconds, bumps into things and has fallen down the stairs. She seems to be losing control or strength in her hind legs. Last night she fell asleep at my feet and then couldn't stand or walk for a couple of minutes when she woke. This morning, on the other hand, she came as close to running as she has in a while to go outside and potty and play for a moment. It was brief. She's eating well, looks and sounds a good as ever which makes it that much harder to wonder "How much is enough for her?" I guess that's what I'm looking for, advice on "enough". She is our absolute favorite person in the world and is loved beyond measure. As terrified as I am about her leaving us, I am more afraid that she's suffering as she is. I've never had to even consider this for a pet so I'm lost to the rationale of it. How do you know when they've had enough?
