Thank you much everyone for this very interesting, educational, humorous thread!!! I came searching, as all I've had to deal with all my years, were tools of mowing engagements! Having grown up in as asphalt jungle (not the movie!) I fell in love with the smell of fresh cut grass! Am 4'10" (now I was told grew older to less1" ~ just my luck!) & for years before the advent of electric mowers I used to hop on top of the darned machine just to be able to start it ~ nearly lost my fingers reaching for clogged grass etc etc ~ didn't want to start machine over & over! So now you know ... I am that *priceless* image Carl18 vividly etched in your mind ~ *73y/o lady wrestling w/ Sawz-All* (by the way I think I'd love it!) Oh & I can always count on ken for injecting a bit to laugh! All I know about Ornamental Grass is admire them on people's landscape & am now for the first time brain-storming about what to do w/ a NE corner after cutting down a very old limb-dropping/breaking Crabapple tree where all the large Hostas now burning! No, not the regular Pampas ~ I know enough to avoid! I couldn't find the young neighbor to ask, what he planted that looks neat, upright, columnar, tallish & offers privacy (for me a blind from the dogs behind)! I googled & marked *Morn' Light, K Foerster, Heavy Metal, Dallas Blue* ~ any pros & cons would be appreciated! TIA!

Well, this is a strange topic for any forum so why am I compelled to answer? Will I regret it? I change the sheets every Saturday when the family are home to help. When the kids were little, I told them that they needed a ticket to watch the Saturday morning cartoons. The ticket was their sheets and towels and laundry baskets. And the TV didn't go on til EVERYONE had brought their stuff downstairs. Lots of peer pressure going on but good habits were instilled, so I thought. They left my home with those good laundry habits. Pride goeth before a fall, however. I had the exact same experience as others have posted. Dropping our older son at college, weeping profusely, I made his dorm bed with the brand-new sheets I had so carefully chosen. Oh, the agony of parting. When we picked him up in May at the end of the school year, he informed me that not only had he never made his bed since I had in September, he had never washed the sheets even once. Gag.

I cheat! I only container garden, and, since my backyard is 16' X 16', when using them and I'm thinking, I put them on our picnic table in the middle of the yard. (No further then 4 feet from where I am, since I have containers in front of containers, or really big containers.) When I'm not thinking, I leave them a foot from where I was and have to search for them the next moment I need them. LOL Now, being a container gardener, my tools are gloves, scissors, two trowels (one for digging into the soil and the other one for digging a thin hole to put a plant in), a cultivar, (I always call them little hand rakes, but wasn't sure anyone else would understand my terminalogy! LOL) and a small pruner. (Will need a bigger one next year, when my little one foot fig tree needs to be reshaped.) A couple of years ago, I bought a homemade wooden toolbox to grow plants in, but it's become my toolbox now. Besides the regular tools, I carry an assortment of pipe cleaners to tie up plants, hopefully in the same colors as the flowers or fruits, although those red ones in my tomatoes keep making me think there are rip tomatoes in there. LOL I also carry a pair of scissors and string, just in case the latest storm has flattened my tomatoes or phlox. Now, at the moment, I keep them in a child's wooden toy box, after spending last winter rubbing several layers of wax on and in it, but it just isn't made for outdoor use, so I don't know if it will even last through this winter. I do suggest container gardening for those of us, whose disabilities limit movement, since containers cut down on the amount of weeding needed, can be moved about, so can be closer to get to and pushed in the back when the plants in them have finished their flowering, and, thankfully not as much leaning over for watering or deadheading as growing in the ground. If you just can't let go of ground gardening, hubby just found a "vertical storage shed" from Tupperware online. Looks like a great place to store soil ammendments, containers, and small tools without hogging space. As for traveling with your tools in a plastic bag, how about considering one of those five gallon painter's buckets? (The link below shows some I bought specifically for gardening, but you can buy the same kind at Home DePots or Lowe's. The best picture is midway down on the first column of pictures, abnd shows mint in with tomatoes.) They come with lids, and you can actually buy tool belts that wrap around them! When you aren't gardening, just put the belt in the bucket and put the lid back on. Chances are good, no one will steal it, simply because they are cheap, and too easy to get for free already. LOL Of course, my entire gardening experience with front yard gardening consist of two huge planters on either end of my sidewalk. The sidewalk IS my front yard -- at least the sidewalk next to my outbound steps. Gotta tell ya! We didn't move into this house when we were disabled, but, man, it is the perfect house for someone, who is both disabled and addicted to gardening. I'm interested in the Felcos too, but I'd like to know why you think 50 bucks (more or less) is worth it for that tool. I've had two pairs of 20 dollar Coronas for 10 years, plus a couple of other failed experiments. The second pair of Coronas have lasted me the longest. However, in ref. to sumala's post, I had a pocket knife (genuine Swiss Army knife) that had a tiny pair of scissors on it. I always kept them in my pocket (much to amusement of some of my co-workers at the time - a girl with a pocket knife ya know, well whatever LOL). Anyway, I swear that was the best rose pruner I ever used! I never got cane dieback and those little guys were really sharp, but after a year I had to abandon them as I couldn't hone them.
