If you can, get one with a fungicide and cover the cutting up to ground level (about 3-4") or mix it with honey which is a natural fungicide and hold the powder on the branch. Bill

That's what a did with my first few cuttings and they came out fine. I couldn't tell you how long it took to root but the leaves came on just about the same time as ones with tone on them. I have one that came in last month my wife potted it and didn't use root tone it had leaves on it and they are doing geat and new ones are coming up and the three tips all have good wet looking ends. Rooting hormone is butyric acid ( labeled a bioactive chemical ) and as a cutting stimulate is ideal. But this acid can damage mature roots or even plants nearby. It is actually considered a hazardous material and you are cautioned not to place it near water supplies. Might just me a "don't sue us if your child gets sick on it' warning but I wouldn't use it on a mature plant. Alfalfa meal is what many gardeners use to help the roots mature. Alfalfa has a hormone that stimulates growth.
