Butternuts: still all male flowers

My three volunteer butternuts growing in my "old" compost pit began flowering on June 29. Since then nothing but male flowers, and it's over three weeks. These are the lushest squash plants I have ever had: no PM, no weird bugs, lots of bees buzzing about. They are perfect in every way IMO except that they don't have any females to hook up with. Is it because they are volunteers probably from composted supermarket fruit?
