Wow, thanks for the help. Bought samples of Balboa Mist and Edgecomb today. In the hallway of my townhouse Balboa turned greenish. So that's out. Edgecomb is much better but seemed to have a slight peachy tone. But the revolting builder beige we inherited with our house when we bought it is a beige-peach-tan and it may be "corrupting" the others. Goes to show what happens in different lights. NO wait, now that is has dried, it is a lovely mushroom. Jewel654 - I'll go off to SW to see Nantucket. BM Glacial - will check it out too. Thanks CRL and beachpea3 - Revere Pewter is pretty but the hall doesn't have a window so I'm trying for a light colour. Yayagal, will find smokey taupe. My first thought was to paint the halls Cloud White in eggshell (the trim though the house is CW). Has anyone see how that works? I love Cloud White - warm and light for places without windows but I know eggshell can look different from semigloss. Most of the rest of the house is painted in a pale celadon green (something like a pale grayed celery). Thanks again guys!!!!

I think I would have like the "unused, wasted space" behind the TV couch in your original arrangement. I would put a table there and decorate it differently all the time. My dad can actually take some steps into the bathroom with a quad cane so he can leave his wheelchair outside and I could position a chair near the sink and shower bench And that will make all the difference -- and he's certainly not alone in using a wheelchair, yet not needing it 100% of the time. I've had a couple students who used wheelchairs to reach the classroom, but then could transfer themselves to a student desk. The question is, will he continue to be able to do this as he ages? Some conditions are progressive, others are not. Be sure to include ample grab bars in the right places. Consider where the wheelchair would be left -- in a hallway? Consider the door swing -- after he's exited the chair, he must maneuver around the doors, which seem to be taking up all the hallway. Then, once he's in the room, he must be able to reach and close the two large doors. Realistically, he'd probably need some help entering the room. but I don't know that moving is something that people take so lightly. No, moving for the sake of one bathroom makes no sense. It would be easier to renovate, even if it meant leaving this bathroom "as is" and adding a bump-out somewhere. I would do a white subway on the walls with a decorative white profile pattern tile for interest 1/3 of the way up. I assume I would need a pedestal sink or a console sink. White is definitely your best option in such a small space. You're fortunate to have a window too; a good, big mirror will reflect that natural light and make this a nice space. I agree with a pedestal sink; it'll visually open things up. Since you have no storage in this bathroom, I'd add an extra-deep medicine cabinet (they can be 6" deep) and a glass shelf above the sink. I'd also go with one of these towel shelves at the end of the shower: Someone actually suggested maybe a stationary glass panel shielding the toilet so the seat and toilet paper don't get wet. Stationary glass makes perfect sense in this situation. I'm not sure where you could place a toilet paper holder in this design ... you'll probably have to have one of those freestanding things. Flo - I know some have suggested to start with floors but I'm glad I didn't. I got to live in the house a few years and kind of familiarize myself a bit with modern styles. The house was LOADED with golden oak and beige throughout. Having the trim and doors painted white now frees me up to choose whatver for flooring. The wall paint can always be changed so it's not a big deal. The trim and doors were solid oak though so that was an expensive venture to go through....but worth it. As you can guess I'm not looking for too trendy. I'm looking for styles that will last (hence the white doors and trim). Looking back i'm glad I held off from buying laminate or other decisions because engineered hardwoord definitely sounds the way to go and I look forward having it installed. As I need a kitchen upgrade (the last of my big projects) I was thinking I'd have the upstairs done first and then move to the main floor. Of course I'll be buying the flooring in advance so I don't run out. The door and the trim being white are my only constants. Although I"m looking forward to the new flooring I am a bit antsy as I want to make the right decision on what colour/grain to use.
