I would contact the mfg. Of the icemaker or Google brand/ "bad tasting ice."

You really need to be careful here, ice machines can and have been, the cause of legionnaires disease. Legionnaires is the WORST and very unlikely case scenario but a bad taste is likely to be a bacterial contamination. I wouldn't use anymore at all until you've spoken to someone at the manufacturer

Sorry but more information is needed. Brand and model number needed. Is the water filtered prior to entering the ice machine? Is this a traditional ice maker or a "clear-ice" machine?

Legionnairs is typically contracted by breathing air that contains contaminated water spray as from cooling systems/ AC spray.

That said, take the above advice and don't drink any of this water. Any bacteria (even typically benign types) can cause disease in high concentration.

Another source of disease in the home are people's shower heads. Mold can and does accumulate in shower heads and can cause disease when the vapor or steam is inhaled during showering. The very young and the very old are especially vulnerable. Most never know the cause of their malaise. Note: check your shower heads from time to time and clean them out with bleach water.

I believe the most contaminated water or fluid that people expose themselves to in the western world comes from contaminated soda dispensers where any foul smell is covered up by the added sugar and flavors. Cheers!

Did you purge the lines like the manufacturer recommended?

And what sort of lines were used to connect it? If the plumber used solder on copper, the flux tastes like crap and takes quite a while to clear.

Eeewwww, Legionnaires disease! That is scary. I'm hoping for something more likely, but I will keep that possibility in the back of my mind.

It's a U-Line BI1215, which creates crescent shaped ice "cubes." It's brand new so I was instructed to toss the first several batches. We are waaayyy beyond the first few batches, four days of batches to be honest. I'd expect the newness to be gone, wouldn't you? I am not using it since it smells and tastes so icky. My best description is a strong plastic-y smell and taste. (I haven't swallowed any, just tasted melted "cubes")

It was connected using a braided water line supply kit, hooked to my sink water line.

I called U-Line and spoke with a person who suggested putting vinegar in the ice tray and then trying the Ice Machine Cleaning packet if the vinegar doesn't work. I tried the vinegar and now the ice is really gross. I will have to wait for the cleaner to arrive.

Until then, has anyone else had a similar problem? What was the cause? And the solution?

Thank goodness my fridge icemaker still works. It's a typical blisteringly hot summer here.
