Overwintering Potted Clematis

This year I planted 5 new clematis in large pots, and now I'm wondering if they need special care during the winter. I'm in Oregon, Z8, with lots of rain, but little or no frost or freezing. . Should the pots be covered? They are too large to move. Actually, they are all growing adequately, but not putting out a lot of new growth or flowers---as though they are still in shock. (I purchased them at a box store, and they are un-named---just "purple" and "blue", and are of the small variety.) All of my in-ground clematis flourish with no extra winter care. This year I have 2 large Jackmanii and a Nelly Moser climbing the tall musas and looking very tropical!
