What is the model number and year of your furnace?

furnace is Maytag. I am not sure the year and number because it was there before I moved in 5 year ago. It seems that the furnace has been replaced before because the cooling system is Tappan.

The Rheem you have listed is a mid-range model and the Carrier is the "Comfort" series, at the lower end of the Carrier line. The Rheem RA14 is a brand new A/C and I don't think anyone would know the reliability.

What is the age of your house. Tappan and Nordyne are related, so they may be the same age. It still would be better to replace the entire "system" if your furnace is old as well. Is there an information plate on the furnace? Maybe inside the filter door.

So how about the carrier? is it good, reliable, efficient, etc. They give me 10 years parts and 3 years labor warrant.

I check the heater and cannot find year of build. It has stainless steel cover. In the label inside, it says output 75,000btu/hr; max supply press 13.8; min supply press 4.5. temperature rise 30-60 deg F. Also type 320329-101 REV. F. Someone from company told me this is a Maytag 4 Ton unit. But I do not know all these mean.

The Carrier should be reliable although I can't give you any statistics on it.

Nothing above looks like a model number or serial number. I would still guess that the furnace is the same vintage as the condenser. Unless budget is an issue or you are or planning to move soon, I still think it would be a good move to get a quote on complete system replacement.

they put additional $1100 on heating system. So I have to replace only cooling system because of budget.

I am in Baton Rouge, LA. I do not know if this area is called inland. But why inland use Rheem and coastal use Carrier. My old air conditioner is 4 ton. So the furnace should be 4 ton

If Carrier uses their ALA model coil, it is superior to Rheem's coil. Worth $700 more?...probably not...but if going with Carrier, I would want the Performance series AC Mdl 24ACB3 over the Comfort series you were quoted...

The serial number you gave does not match the format of any Maytag / Nordyne serial number that I could find. It is possible that the first four digits are the 23 week of 1994. I did find a manual for the furnace (Series D) that was written in 1995, so chance are that your furnace is as old as the house.

Since the Rheem starts out so much cheaper, did you ask for a bottom line price on total replacement? There is no comparison to starting fresh with a complete matched system with a 10 year warranty.

Just replace the evaporator coil for about $300 + labor.
