Need help with colors and minor decor suggestions!

Hey guys; I'm back! I originally posted asking for some help on a house that my dad was in the process of buying, but it fell through. Good news is that we found another home. We got the keys on Monday and we've started moving in! It's an older home in a well established neighborhood versus the other home that was a cookie cutter home in a new cul-de-sac.

This is the formal living room.

  • There's some green and yellow in there now. There will be a gold mirror above the fireplace. I have no clue what to do as far as an area rug for the sitting area. I figured out that a 7x9 rug will fit perfectly in the space. I don't know what color or style to choose for the rug at all. I know in the dining room my father is using a rug he already owns, it's an off white-ish with a light floral pattern (it's hard to explain - kind of like vines with medium size leaves going across it)

  • We had to order a new console table to go in front of the stairs because the matching one to the coffee table was far too large. My father says that would make the room have "too much furniture in one area/cramped", but I think it would look nice (it's like 32 inches wide and has drawers).

  • We looked at some art to go above the desk. I also don't know what style or colors to do above the desk. I was thinking something colorful with maybe greens/yellows/oranges.

  • We also need a floor lamp because there's no ceiling fixtures in the formal living room. I was thinking something mid century or traditional; such as a pharmacy lamp.

Sorry about the mess! Still moving in, haha. My dad and I are perplexed as to why there's only 1 window in the addition, so he wants to add some more and add built ins. We need to paint the family room. The paint is all messed up because before move-in we had to have some minor leaking issues addressed. There's going to be a grey sectional, a round glass table in the dinette with yellow chairs (espresso-ish wood).

My dad was maybe going to try to find matching paint, but that seems like a task. Don't know what color to paint it. We'd probably paint up to where the addition meets the original house.

That's where the old brick colonial meets the new house. It seriously feels like two different homes when you walk through.

We have a window treatment company coming out next week. My dad wants to put those fabric shades that kind of "fold up" in all the windows. We also need curtains throughout the house. Not sure what style or color to do for the curtain treatments.

Thanks for any input! I'd greatly appreciate it! Sorry for the long winded post again!
