Help me find another rug to go with this one!
Hi everyone - I'm trying to find a complimentary rug for the oriental one we already have - see attached pic. Our living room is long, with one area being more of a place designated for adult conversation (where our oriental is), and the other half of the room is play/reading space for my 3 young kids. I don't want to spend a ton of money on another $$ oriental rug since they'll probably get paint, food, etc all over it. I'm tempted to just get a natural colored rug but was hoping for any other suggestions. I bought a cheap oriental (less than $300) on eBay that I hoped would be similar colors but it just doesn't quite match so I may return it. I see cute pics on Houzz where people mix vastly different looking rugs but I am at a loss. Any ideas?? Thanks!!!

Comments (9)Okay, I love the LL Bean rug! I think the colors look perfect. I love that little shag rug with the purples and greens but I'd have to buy 4 of them to sew together and $600 is too much for me to spend for something I might screw up! I love the zebra one, and there was another one on the site that had the same green/white in a polka dot, but all that white scares me. I may be ordering the LL Bean one. It really makes a difference (to me) to see the whole room; it gives me a better idea how all your pieces relate to one another. So seeing your whole room I have to say I like a simpler design. The Trellis is still my fave for your room: it is v. simple but it has a bite to it so it's not boring. My second favorite is that orange -- thump thump went my heart. I'm a sucker for orange but I think it could really pull everything together in a harmonious way. Your Shaw rug is just too much, I'm afraid. Or it appears to be too much to me, and too much saying "look at me! I'm so exciting!" If you had all milquetoast furniture then yeah, maybe, but lucky you you do NOT -- you've got gorgeous, fun furniture. I'm a more-is-more kind of gal, so for my eye to steer away from more pattern really makes me listen. I also really like the Overstock Circles, but you wrote it's sold out. While that's kind of a bummer I'm still rooting for Trellis or Orange. You have done a beautiful job in there already. You should be proud of yourself! My walls are very pale green, I have a dark grey sectional similar to the one you posted, and teal trim/molding in an open adjoining dining room that matches the teal in this rug. 8 years agoI don't think Oriental rugs should match. The whole point of them is that there are no two alike. If they match, it looks like a set, and that completely cheapens the look of them.
I think the problem here is that you are trying to "match" a fake Oriental with a real one.
why no fully designate the kid area and put a flooring in that can take anything and even be mopped, like soft tiles

8 years agoBased on your room, consider selecting one or two colors from the room (russet &/or navy) and select a patterned synthetic rug using those two colors which will coordinate with your original rug.
