Rex begonia in Oyama planters? What potting mix?

S Abrams

I just bought my first rex begonia, 'Celia'. I am wondering if I can pot it in an Oyama planter usually used for African Violets? If so, what potting mix should I use in a plastic Oyama pot? I use a soilless mix and add perlite for my AVs. Can I use the same mix for the rex? I have read conflicting information about the use of peat. Not sure what to do.

More details about my plants:

I am in NYC. My rex is indoors in a north window with a grow light that is on about 12 hours per day on a timer (for my african violets).

I actually got two rex 'Celia's and each one has three leaves. They are still in the pots they arrived in from the seller (Violet Barn) - 2.5" square plastic. I am worried about watering the plants correctly in these pots. I like the Oyama planters because they give me a little more room for error.

Suggestions for a newbie?
