Possibly Stupid Question about Casters on an Antique. . .
Comments (4)The casters may not snap out as easily as you think. I have an old chair that has them & 1 wheel is missing. I planned on removing the faulty caster & replacing it assuming I could find a similar one - problem was, it wouldn't budge & the upholsterer & I were afraid of doing serious damage if we used more force. The chair now sits on caster cups with a double cup for height under the 'bad' leg. I don't know about hardwood, but the wheels will definitely dent a heart pine floor....See Morewonderful cl antique bargain. not a chair; pic heavy!
Comments (41)fripper, I really hadn't done anything when I took those pics of it in my porch, other than to wipe off dust with a damp paper towel. Those pics of it inside the porch were taken at dusk, which probably makes a difference in the way the color appears. I have since put a bit of Butcher's wax on the top surface of the lower part, and that is all I'll do to the whole thing. That patina just comes with its age. I'm actually growing used to it in the porch, and I like it with the wallpaper in there. It may stay there for a little while. I THINK I may have captured some of the wavy glass in this pic. If you look at the left pane of glass, it's reflecting my garage trim outside. See how the off-white appears distorted? IRL, the clapboards do too, but I just can't capture it , being a very novice photographer. There are a few tiny bubbles in the glass, too....See MoreVanity and Dresser Set. Any ideas on age, style?
Comments (5)Thanks. It is a really nice set and amazing quality. The vanity is pretty tiny but it takes two people to move it. Besides a little chip in the styling at the front the vanity there is no damage to this set. I picked all 5 pieces up from a local women for $120 which seemed like a steal (considering I could only get a pressed board or crappy cheap pine dresser new for that). I thought it was art deco influenced based on the designs but am new at this....See MoreNeed help identifying an antique piece of furniture. Style and age
Comments (18)I think that the nails we see are not original, but were part of a patch-up made after this piece had aged. The drawers may have been glued together, and then came apart. The owner resorted to nailing to keep it together. Look at the 11th photo. Toe nailing was done with nails that were much too long and the nails protrude by a large amount. This is sloppy patching, but typical of someone using whatever he has in his nail bin. In earlier photos of the drawers, the nails are not evenly spaced indicating these were placed by eye, and not measured....See Morenatalieinitaly
