Net pots for carnivorous plants?

So I was browsing eBay for a new Venus flytrap when I can across a page where the person was growing then in net pots for orchids. He said in the description that they help with air circulation but I've never heard of anyone doing this. Has anyone tried this?

I haven't. I suppose as long as the media in the net pot is wet it would work. They must be using LFSM. I don't care for LFSM for my VFTs.

Funny I was think of trying this.but I planed on doing it in a high pressure aeroponic setup.if this is any indication then my idea could work if I got my nutriant solution right.I'll research this more.love these plants by the way.I want on of every species lol.may work in my greenhouse,I plan on keeping bees in the greenhouse,maby they can eat the bees and keep the population in cheak.

I'm also curious if anyone has bought plants offline with success, and which sites they used. I think you meant online?? There are many sites that are good. Ebay is not so good.

Check out this Carnivorous plant forum out of Ontario. We share photos and growing experiences in our Canadian climate. We also yak about CP sources and some of the rip off places out there. Currently there are at least two Canadian carnivorous plant suppliers who are on our warning list - for taking your money and giving you nothing in return. I agree with tommyr above. Your sarracenia and Venus flytrap need dormancy. This is my first year with growing carnivorous plants too. I have all of my flytraps and sarracenia in the fridge right now. I pruned all dead growth and washed the roots clean of sediment, then I wrapped the roots in a wet, long fibered sphagnum/paper towel covering to keep them moist through the winter. Once they're trimmed and wrapped I put them in ziplock baggies with some sulfur based fungicide to keep mold from growing and now I wait. Unfortunately, if both your sarr and flytrap are as bad as you are describing they may not have enought stored energy to survive dormancy. Sarracenia and flytraps spend all summer storing energy in a type of bulb called a rhizome. Your plants sound very light deprived so they may not have enough energy to last all winter. If you do get them to make it through the winter immediately get though outside. Sarrs and flytraps love sunlight, the more they get the better. Your nepenthes is most likely fine. I have two, a N. Miranda and an N. Ventrata, they pitchered profusely in the summer but I'm the winter they don't receive enough light to produce strong pitchers. Most of the time light from a window isn't enough to induce pitchering in the winter. If you wver wanted to try, you could invest in some artificial lights to boost the sunlight they already recieve. I suggest searching the Internet for a good look at some peoples nepenthes setups. There are some really amazing ones out there. Also I hate to sound rude and I don't mean this in a condescending way, but sometimes a little research goes a long way. I figure that the seller who sold you your plants didn't tell you how to grow them properly, however that is no excuse as doing a little research would be extremely easy and take very little time. Sounds like a gimmick to me. Standard cultivation works so well and these are not naturally plants that need a lot of aeration in their soil... I would need empirical evidence to change my mind.

Evidence is my best friend. I'm seeking evidence that supports carnivourus plant being able to be grown hydroponicly. I would love to give it a shot

If I gave my best guess I'd say a deep water culture system with a ph of 3.5ish and being very stingy with the nutreants might be my best bet. Make the solution more alkaline in nature,and add a small airstone to the resivoir.

Type "growing carnivorous plants hydroponically" into Google and have at it. Some people are trying it.

I think those biodomes for the Nepenthes Lady Luck plants are in what is essentially a net pot. They sit in a container with exposed soil/roots that take in the water directly. Supposedly the root ball has the fertilizer or nutritiion the plant needs for up to 1 year, so you just have to keep adding water to the bio-dome for that time period.

Those domes are nothing but a gimmick. They are not needed. Just my opinion.

Sure, they can grow just fine in a standard plant pot setup or in the ground with a boggy setup. But the biodome setup means that growing the CPs in net pots, which have direct access to water, is possible and OK for the plants depending on the final setup.
