Comments (2)They look great! Unfortunately mine aren't looing so hot this year because of the rampant slug damage.... Oh well maybe I can post awesome photos of them next year! Alexa...See MoreIs this Wide Brim?
Comments (20)The plant in question is only about 15" tall (I measured it again at the highest point) and is at least 5 years old, maybe more. The biggest leaves are about 5x7. It has a similiar growth pattern as So Sweet, upright with wavy leaves. The picture was taken yesterday and the colors are true in the photo. It does not have a blue tinge to it ever. I don't remember what color the flowers are or when it blooms. It does not have a bud scapes coming up at this point. In the pictures below you can see it planted with So Sweet behind it and 2 of those commom green and white (don't know the name of them either) ones that you see everywhere. It is just a cute medium sized plant that has upright wavy green leaves with a creamy yellow edge. I have Regal Splendor and I know it is not that and I don't think it's big enough to be Atlantis. Thanks for all your help everyone, I really appreciate it! Linda...See MoreAre these good? Northern Exposure, Wide Brim, Frances Williams
Comments (8)Wide Brim is a fine old standard... 1979 Aden... it can actually get quite large in a happy location... its listed most often as Medium-Large. It tends to stay small, with smaller leaves, if kept in a pot or a spot with root competition. Frances Williams... though it is a classic and an old favorite, I just don't think I'd even put it in any more. It sets the standard for burning, so growing it becomes an experiment where you see if you can find just the right situation for it, then discuss each year if you had only a little burn or a totally disfiguring burn. There are just so many other hostas with big leaves on big plants with yellow margins... I just can't even justify selling FW anymore. My favorite replacement is Olive Bailey Langdon. Northern Exposure is fine... there are a whole bunch of sieboldiannas with white margins and each one was released with the description that it was an improvement on all the previous ones... I think NE does tend to be on the better-growing end of the spectrucm, though they are all slow to mature. If you have more time than money, I'd pick it up and put it somewhere where it can situate itself... given a few years it will be an attractive clump....See MoreDoes my plumeria have the dreaded FrMV virus or fungal infection?
Comments (1)Without seeing the pictures my first thought is you have insects of some sort, even if you can't see them. The "snail trails" are an indication of pests. Does the trunk seem firm all over, even at the base? If the trunk is firm and the only damage is on the leaves I would again say insects. If the trunk is soft anywhere then you may have another issue. Check it out and let us know....See MorePieter zone 7/8 B.C.
