New garage siding color! Help!

We are in the process of having a detached stick built two car garage built. It is going to be a front gable with two garage doors. Size is 24 wide X 26 deep. The garage will be next to the house ( 7 feet away from the house) and the front of the garage will stick out 8 feet in front of the house.

We really would like to do another color of siding besides white, but I don't know that any other will look good.

Should we just stick with white siding or does anybody have suggestions on another color.

I took some quick photos of the house. The dirt you see next to the house is where the garage will be.

I understand not wanting an all white garage, but with a smaller ranch that is all brick like your house is, I don't think that painting the garage a different color would look cohesive. Have you considered using a mix of the white and a brick facade on the garage? That would help to add some interest. As you can see in the examples, the first is basically the look you will have if it's all white, where as in the 2nd pic you can see that even the slightest amount of bricking helps to break up the white some.

I agree with lukkiirish on this. A white garage next to your red brick home needs a connection. Maybe you could consider red brick veneer on the face of the garage like the illustration below.

I agree, make the garage siding the same as the colour of house (redish bricks) and use white trims, soffit and eaves trough for accents. Garage door colours would look nice with white. Hi, It's hard to suggest a color for different parts of the country. The colors where I live wouldn't go well with all the green. The red is a good contrast but may make the garage look like a barn. Take a ride around your neighborhood and it you see something you like and simply copy it. Good Luck Woodbutcher

Most of the paint companies have tools where you can upload a photo and then paint it different colors. Why don't you try that? Also, your house would look great in a number of colors. I think you have to narrow it down. Do you want something muted, or bright? Cool tones or warm? Do you like reds or blues or greens or yellows? What is the style of other houses in your neighborhood? Do you like your current color or hate it?

I think a medium to dark grey would work as well as white. It is hard to tell from the pic, but is there any grey on the house now (i.e., trim, roof, grout in the brick)? Just make sure it is a warm grey that works with the brick and not a cool grey that would fight with them. If there isn't any grey on the house, maybe you could introduce it by painting the shutters, front door trim, etc. the same grey you'd use on the garage.

I have added a gable end 2 door garage to your photo. Maybe this will help you make your decisions.

Beverly's pic really helps. What about doing the "stiles" between and on either side of the door in the same brick as the house and the rest white? That should keep it from looking overwhelming white and tie in well to what you've got going on in the house (i.e. both garage and house gable ends white)

Thank you so much Beverly! The photos are so helpful. I didn't even realize that you can only see the one set of our shutters due to those awful bushes in front of our windows. (My husband loves those bushes for some reason, I'm trying to talk him into taking them out!)

Are you able to make the garage white so I can see how bad it would really look?

A white garage seems to have no connection to the house at all. I think it would be nice to have some matching, or coordinating, brick on the front, and then the gable just like those on your house. Even if you just face the front with brick, and paint the sides something neutral.

Edit -- would it be cheesy to pain the garage the same color as the brick, and leave the gables white to match the house (if the siding can be painted...not sure).

Bev's color looks richer than white and much nicer than 'plain white'. Is there any chance of painting the trim on the house the darker tan color in either of her last two examples?
