This might sound a bit different, but I just found out about USASkypanels. What they are are decorative fluorescent lighting panels. What you can do is install a florescent light fixture, get a nice lighting panel, and it will be able to go well with the room, be it a living room or an office. It is commonly used in homes and office anyway! Check out Skypanels. :)

Dimmers would work in your LR. Or if the room is large enough, use double switches. We have two separate LED tracks in our 350sf master; half of it is Spouse's office. We can switch on both tracks (19 lites total) or just one.

With a 7.5' vanity I'd do either 3 lights - one centered above the mirror, matching lights on either side. You can also have the mirror drilled if you want to use 3 sconces evenly placed.

Style is up to you. I'd suggest taking a picture of your vanity with your phone camera, then going to a good lighting store. A good lighting salesperson is worth their weight in gold - hard to find, but really helpful when they actually know their products.

We personally prefer LED track systems to fluorescents, but much depends on your local RE market (resale is always one of my considerations; YMMV). Our home and general tastes run to contemporary; in our area contemporary and Arts & Craft decor is preferred.

Fluorescents are considered very low-market out here so I don't know anyone who has put one into their home, over the last 30 years. They don't even go into laundry rooms. Garages and workshops, at most. Even my frugal in-laws, with a beautiful traditional Spanish Mediterranean home, removed all fluorescent fixtures about 20 yrs ago.

We go to a lot of open houses as our area is currently 'hot'. Always interesting to see what folks are putting in these days.
