I agree with Lori. Buy the best paint quality you can afford. Then invest in high quality tools to get the best results. Application technique is also very important. Learn to lay on and off prior to rolling a wall. Each wall requires two steps, laying on and laying off. Google it. :) Spend $6 on each roller cover and use 1/2" nap. I use Wooster lambskin roller covers. A quality brush will cost $20. Chinex Glide, Wooster Alpha, Proform Picasso, etc. Paint trim before walls. It's much easier to cut in along trim edges. Avoid cutting in around switch plates, outlets, etc. (Unless there is no roller clearance.) You want the least amount of brush marks mixed with the roller stipple, especially at eye level. IME, SW Cashmere is the most friendly, easy to apply, most durable DIY paint you can buy. Happy painting!

The Ben Moore guy said I am right that new laws governing paint ingredients come out every few years, and what they want the manufacturers to get rid of always turns out to be the good stuff. So when CR does a test on 3, 6, and 9 years on paint, it's quite likely not the paint you can go to the store and buy today. Paints we've all known and loved can go downhill, and boy have they! Of course, my bad luck with the SW Superpaint white doesn't mean someone else won't have good luck with a blue, or red, etc. I read one review where the guy claimed Behr white was good, but avoid the tints. Shrug. Christopher Nelson, you gave good advice and I'm glad I listened to you. I picked up a quart of Ben Moore Aura this afternoon, and it was like night and day. Went on smooth as silk. I may need two coats, but not four. Thanks! I'm now a new Ben Moore fan, and I may yet finish this job well before the bad weather sets in.

Agree with the benefit of getting an adjuster (your own, not the one the insurance company sent). We just completed a big Irma-related claim. In the process, we met an adjuster working for a large, high-end resort. His knowledge is something a homeowner could not replicate. We were fortunate that he offered to review our claim and assist us. Insurance companies do not make profits being generous with claims. You have a right to get the same quality kitchen you had before. Of course there can be issues if under-insurance. Get a professional on your side.

Try Benjamin moore white dove paint. One of the most popular paint colors ever and it goes well with greys, taupes and browns And many other colors. You can go to the Benjamin Moore store and ask them to make up small sample cans of paint and also pick up some color cards. Take the the sample paint home and paint some largish poster boards with the various colors and move them around the room to see if you like the color in your own environment, light, and shadow, etc. You can paint your walls one color of white in a matte finish and your woodwork in a satin or semi gloss or switch to a different but complementary white for the woodwork). Also, if you don’t like the effect of your lightbulbs on your surfaces, you might try lightbulbs with a higher Kelvin whiter light like K 4000. Changing your lightbulbs might make the room seem fresher against the brown carpet. Good luck.
