Comments (2)Hi ruthz, I would be interested in a cutting of the Species (double white) and the Isabella. I have listed the Brug cuttings that I have available on the Brug forum and this exchange. Thanks, Jerry...See MoreMedicinal Onion Plant
Comments (5)Thank you so much! Although I don't remember the bulb being above ground as in the picture. My mother and grandmother used it on me when I was very young, I'm assuming they didn't know about the toxicity of it. We only used small pieces of the greens. As I recall if you a sliver and put it on overnight it would "pull" the sliver out, which was great when you were a kid. Also worked the same if you got a burr broken off under the skin. My son is Autistic and screams bloody murder if I try to pull a sliver out with tweezers, which is what made me remember this home remedy from my childhood. We also have a genetic blood disorder (from my grandmother's side) that causes us to bruise VERY easily. I have the legs of an 8 year old, all battered and bruised. That could be another reason she had this plant. I sure wish she was still around so I could talk to her about this. It's the little things. Thanks again for the help!...See MoreWANTED: fresh black walnut leaves and black cohosh leaves
Comments (0)A friend of mine is looking for samples of fresh black walnut leaves and black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) leaves for a study. You must be absolutely positive on the ID of the plant and be able to provide a picture of the plant when it was actively growing (just in case questions come up). The samples must be at least 50km from Guelph, ON. In exchange I can offer pregnant onion bulbils (Albuca bracteata syn. Ornithogalum caudatum), mother of thousand plantlets (Bryophyllum daigremontianum) or leaf cuttings of the giant butterwort (Pinguicula gigantea). In terms of seeds, I can offer Solanum melongena 'Striped Toga,' Job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi var. ma-yeun), or Peter Pepper. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated....See MoreAngel Trumpet Seed Pods
Comments (23)If it's purple, then it's actually a Datura, aka Devil's Trumpet .... Brugmansia, aka Angel's Trumpet blooms hang downward, Devil's Trumpet usually point upward .... and there aren't any purple Brugmansia. Also, Datura seedpods are spikey and round, Brugmansia are long and bean-shaped. Datura are prolific self-seeders, and will come back in droves the next year unless you control the seed pods. Deadheading doesn't have much impact on reblooming in either of these plants, and the seed pods take quite a while to mature and split open. If you want to cut the bloom off once it's spent, you can .... Some people prefer the "neat" look. If you don't get to it right away, you'll have plenty of time to prevent it's seed explosion! ;) If you do get a Brugmansia, however, seed pods are a rare occurrence, and I personally wouldn't deadhead those. =)...See More- 8 years ago
